Whenever it's a mixed person, it's almost exclusively someone who is half white. This is the same across other parts of Asia too like Singapore, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka - all of which have a history of selecting Eurasian candidates to represent themselves at major pageants.

@rodrozil6544 Have you seen how Middle Eastern people look like? Goodness gracious you are so wrong it's not even funny. A lot of people in Northeast India look like her (Southeast Asian look). Middle Eastern people generally have olive skin and many look quite European.

@cobidbeksin5200 I know this is a joke but it's kind of true, I'll try to explain in simple words. 1. The first humans in Asia gave rise to the ancient group collectively known as East Eurasians during the Pleistocene 2. There were two main sub-branches of East Eurasians, the lighter skinned East Asian-looking farmers and the darker skinned Veddoid hunter gatherers (represented by groups like the Andamanese, Orang Asli and Paniya). All of these groups are distantly related to one another. 3. Southeast Asia was first settled by the Hoabinhians (dark skinned Veddoid-type group) in addition to other groups like the Negritos, later East Asian farmers moved south from China into Southeast Asia intermixing with the locals to create modern-day Southeast Asians. 4. In South Asia, the Veddoid groups mostly mixed with the West Eurasian-related people who brought IE languages to create modern-day South Asians. Some also mixed with the Austro-Asiatic people and so on. 5. The ancestors of the Jomon emerged from the same clade that gave rise to the Andamanese, Orang Asli, AASI, Hoabinhian etc. and settled in Japan who later intermixed with the East Asian-looking Yayoi to create modern Yamato Japanese.

Yes but Asian isn't a race. Asian is more of a term to describe geography and culture. For example, Imperial Japan used pan-Asianism as an ideology in hope that they could unite the various parts of Asia that are culturally Sinic (Chinese) and Indic (Indian) during WWII. So their hope was to create a union centered on Asian culture and practices and led by Japan. As you can see the use of the word "Asian" in this context is in reference to culture. It's really outside of Asia in the West and Africa where "Asian" is used in a racial sense. Priyanka is biracial because she's half Japanese and half Indian. At a basic level, Japanese and Indians are genetically different from one another. One is East Asian, the other is South Asian. Hope this helps.

@rodrozil6544 As the others said, Northeast India is a diverse region (most look like Southeast Asian or Chinese, there are others who look stereotypically Indian). She could pass as Assamese or Khasi. Also, as the other user said, Thailand is also diverse. There are Chinese looking Thai, stereotypical looking Southeast Asian Thai, Thai Malay, some look almost like Indians - especially in the south). You're just generalising a whole region which has a long history of human settlement.

@AA-ok5jz Well imo I don't think there's anything "Western" about Priyanka Yoshikawa - she looks Southeast Asian, Northeast Indian or like some Nepalis or Bhutanese, but that's just my opinion. Her dad is Bengali if it means anything.

@hannesRSA The conclusion of my comment would be that since colonisation - which resulted in the emergence of Eurasian communities and the idea that proximity to Whiteness gave you greater chances of success, American military intervention which boosted the sex industry in Asia during R&R as well as Westernisation has meant people in certain parts of Asia (specifically the countries I previously mentioned + East Asia) have become open towards intermarriage with White people. As a result, there ismore acceptance towards Eurasian features in pageants than there are for other mixes. In the entertainment and modelling industries in parts of Asia, looking Eurasian is considered exotic. They look Asian enough to appeal to full Asians but European enough to look exotic. Asia has a long history of considering fair skin to be attractive (before the Europeans arrived), this development of looking Eurasian is just a modern extension of an ancient ideal. That's why you have Eurasian women like Catriona Gray of the Philippines and Ornella Gunesekere of Sri Lanka representing their countries at major pageants. Both women are fair, both women have typical Asian features (black hair, dark eyes) but also have European features that make them stand out. It seems to be the case across the world that mixed race people are considered beautiful, no matter the mix.

However, with a shrinking workforce, rapidly aging population and declining fertility, the Japanese government has had no choice but to bring people in. However, they're selective of who comes in and they gravitate towards accepting people from other Asian countries due to the cultural similarities. That's why the largest foreign groups in Japan are all Asian (Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, Nepali). The Japanese government signs agreements with other Asian countries like Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and some other South and Southeast Asian countries to allow temporary migration where people temporarily come to work and then go back to their home countries. Generally speaking, Asian countries that allow this form of temporary migration (e.g. Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan) tend to accept people from other Asian countries.

@hannesRSA So yes as Christina said, there is a bias towards Eurasian features at pageants in some parts of Asia due to ideas that have developed over a few centuries of contact with the West which has created an idea that looking Eurasian is considered beautiful. It wasn't always the case, there was a time when Eurasian people were looked down upon in Asia starting first with the colonial era and then when Amerasian people emerged in Southeast Asia, Japan and Korea. Vietnam, in particular, had a long history of looking down on Eurasian people. Things only started to change at the start of this century in the early 2000s when Eurasian people suddenly became the poster child of modern Asia spearheaded by things like MTV Asia which featured Eurasian VJs. Suddenly looking Eurasian became the trend in parts of Asia.

@life_is_a_myth Also, how India and China both culturally influenced Southeast Asia from ancient times through to 19th century migration. It's actually quite interesting thinking about it all. It's like Southeast Asia is the baby of India and China. 😂
