This literally has nothing to do with religion and there are other countries with Hindus that don't suffer from poverty. Most people in Sri Lanka are Buddhists. The ignorance...

@NVGEAR People can't sneak into Australia by boat. You're sent back if you come by boat. I don't know why you would think that's the case. Australia has a hard border for all sorts of things, including tourists and importation of plants and animals.

@onengkusumah2905 Just worry about your country which is Indonesia, you are not Australian.

@nrabbi93 Singapore doesn't accept refugees because it's a small country and the country is also ethnocentric in who gets PR. Most Singaporeans are Chinese, Malays and Indians and the government has traditionally been more accepting of people from Malaysia (which is ethnically and culturally very similar to Singapore), China and India as a result of this. This is not to say everything is perfect, racism towards Malaysians, Chinese from China and Indians from India is well documented and authorities have expressed concern that there is a growing divide between Singaporeans and new immigrants from other Asian countries.

They're not even overpopulated. Stop being ignorant. They literally have a declining fertility rate, rapidly aging population and their population is set to peak and begin declining in the late 2030s.

@SP95 Do you even know what overpopulation is? Sri Lanka is not overpopulated. They've had low fertility for decades. They have one of the highest aging populations in Asia, they've been dealing with lack of young people since the 2010s that they had to rely on cheap labour from other Asian countries to fill up gaps in their job market. That country is not overpopulated and far from it. You see a country where most people have dark skin and you think it's overpopulated. Stop with the blatant racism and ignorance. Y'all are so tiring!

@SP95 This is what happens when you have someone talk about something they don't even understand. Large parts of Asia are dealing with aging populations and low fertility rates not overpopulation, keep up with the times for crying out loud. This is 2022 not 1945.

@yqisq6966 I'm Australian and of Sri Lankan descent. What type of festival was it if you don't mind me asking? Was it an event for a bigger multicultural festival or something different? Australia's proximity to Asia has meant there has been a lot of contact with Asians even before the arrival of Europeans. The first Sri Lankans in Australia came during the colonial era as pearl divers. If you go up north to Broome and northern Queensland you will find people of mixed Aboriginal and Asian (Sri Lankan, Malay, Chinese or Japanese) heritage. We also have a language spoken in northern Australia called Kriol which was partly influenced by the Asian immigrants that settled up north. We are a diverse country but I don't think we're as diverse as the US, Canada or UK. Traditionally, most immigrants to Australia come from Europe and Asia. I think it's because we're quite isolated from most Western countries. In Australia's big cities, you will find more ethnic diversity but as you move inwards, it's different. You'll find mostly European settler and Aboriginal Australians and to some extent descendants of colonial-era Asian immigrants (pearl divers, Gold Rush immigrants etc.).

@Hindu_power_200 Wrong
1
@Hindu_power_200 Sri Lankans are not Indians. This is like saying Koreans are Chinese.
1
@Hindu_power_200 They absolutely are not. Stop claiming every single part of Asia as Indian territory.
1
@Hindu_power_200 No
1
@Hindu_power_200 I can tell you are though

@Hindu_power_200 😐

@memeniamemes8191 I feel sorry that you think development corresponds to what religion you practice. Not to mention how clueless you are about Sri Lanka. I cant give you one because every Hindu-majority country that does exist is a secular nation. Go look up the definition of "secular state". There is no country in the world run on Hindu laws. Stop being so obtuse. You made one mistake and you're back here to make some more? Aren't you embarrassed?

@Fallen608 We are so far away from the Middle East and Africa, the migrant crisis in Europe would not have affected us in any shape or form.
1
@Fallen608 No, no it would have not. The refugee crisis in Europe was so catastrophic because people moved by foot over land. You can't just compare Australia accepting refugees to what Europe experienced which is an uncontrolled inundation of humans due to geographical proximity. People moved by foot or boat not by air travel. The exact same thing happened in Asia in 2017 when more than 1 million Rohingyas moved by foot or by boat to Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia (aka countries that are in close proximity to Myanmar). The only close countries they could no get to was Singapore because of its hard border policy on refugees and China (again because it's not willing to accept uncontrolled flows of refugees unless it has something to gain from them, like the Assamese insurgents who are fighting the Indian government).
