It's because India's shine has now disappeared. It's not just China, it's very much the whole of Asia and really the whole world that thinks the same way. The reality is that the glory days of India when Indic culture was spread across Asia is now long gone. What people see is a shell of what India once was and it's just shocking to see how India which gave the world Buddhism, meditation, yoga and all these other aspects is in the state that it is in today, where people do not respect it. There are so many issues present in India today like the mistreatment of women and girls, open defecation, undeveloped infrastructure, unhygienic practices used in preparing street food, high infant mortality rate and so on. So many videos have gone viral on international social media like TikTok and Twitter showcasing very shocking aspects of Indian society that has sadly ruined the reputation of India and its people over the course of 2023. These practices were once common in other Asian countries as far recent as the 1970s but now not anymore. The reality is that India is still very far behind. I used to think India was following China's trajectory and I thought modern India was currently somewhere where China was back in the 1990s/early 2000s so it was developing very well but after seeing all those videos last year, my perspective changed and so did millions of others. It seems like there are areas of India, especially in the north, that are like they're still stuck in the 1940s. I don't know why Modi doesn't use the money India generates to improve these regions. I don't know, I think it's going to take India a very, very long time to change people's perspectives of the country. It's sad, really.

@Seevawonderloaf The reason why India is taking a very long time to develop is because its people continue to talk about colonisation. It's been 75 years and they're still talking about it. It's time to move on. Kerala is a state in India that is in a far better position than many other locations in India. So I know India can develop but for some reason, most other locations in the country are still very behind. Due to the negative reputation that people have of India today, they have far worse and prejudicial things to say as to why India is still like this. However, I think the reason why India is like this is because 1. it has a brain drain where its educated leave for other locations like the US and become successful. Many Indian tech experts leave India and go on to become CEOs of American tech companies instead of creating their own, for example. Number 2. is because India still has a victim mentality. This is something China once had and termed the "Century of Humiliation" but now they have gotten over that. I still want to believe India will become a high income nation by the middle of this century but I really don't know anymore.

@youknowme2322 When will this talk of "being colonised" end? The excuses need to stop or India will never develop. Constantly claiming to be a victim leads to nowhere. Chinese saw themselves as victims but then they got up and rose. Anyway, India wasn't the only one that was colonised. Malaysia was colonised and it's set to become a developed nation by at least 2027. Maldives was colonised, once classified as an LDC and yet it's on track to becoming a high income nation at least by the 2030s. Ireland was colonised by the UK, subjugated by the English, faced persecution and viewed as inferior (businesses refused to Irish customers), the Irish Potato Famine occurred and yet it became a developed country.

Indian people in Arunachal Pradesh along the India-China border were saying they are proud Indians but they feel sad that their region is not developed because they can see Tibetan towns across the border and see that they have been developed while they're still living in villages. I'm sad that India doesn't develop the country rapidly. I really want to visit the country but the viral videos on TikTok last year tell me it's not safe to visit.

@laveniaghosh8303 cause North Indians always say "justice for Uyghurs" and "free Tibet" and yet the regions where Uyghurs and Tibetans live in China are fully developed and yet the regions in India are still undeveloped.

@Johannesai1 Exactly but Modi and the Indian public don't know this so India will never change. I'm done believing in that country. I hope they will change for the better but they never do.

@SeahawkGaming-xp7bl ...even if that were to happen, it wouldn't change anything because at the end of the day, it comes down to culture. If the cultural attitude stays the same then how on earth do you expect anything to change? We can use recent Indian immigrants to nations in the West as well as to Singapore as case studies of what happens when the mentality is not changed despite a new environment.
