  1.  @AdamAdamHDL  Nobody practices caste among the Sinhalese population. The so-called highest caste in Sri Lanka is traditionally considered a farmer caste. That literally means nothing today.

Sinhalese people formed in Sri Lanka from an East Indian-related lineage that mixed with the ancient indigenous groups in addition to additional admixture from other groups like the Malays. Sinhalese have their own culture, even Sri Lankan amils have their own qualities specific to Sri Lanka.

  3.  @hanzoII963  No they aren't. Japanese themselves descend partially from the Jomon, who originated in the Himalayas. Sinhalese are not Indians. The average genetic makeup of Sinhalese is AASI + Neolithic Farmer + a small amount of Southeast Asian. So the same?? Yeah... definitely not.

  4.  @hanzoII963  No, the genetic variance between Marathi and Sinhalese is absolutely not the same and we're not Hindus. I did a 23andMe genetic test and it came back as mostly native Sri Lankan (represented by Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamil) and the rest was Southeast Asian (represented by Thai, Indonesian, Cambodian and Burmese). So no, we are NOT the same and we are not Marathi or Hindu. What a thing to say.
