They controlled the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and were on such a good path in the late 2010s that there was a dossier of a 10 year plan to turn Sri Lanka into a high income nation that was released in 2019. When it comes to South Asian nations, Sri Lanka and the Maldives stand out.

Those Americans who stormed the Capitol are terrorists because they couldn't accept the results of a democratic election. The Sri Lankans who stormed the presidential palace are saving their lives because their president stole all of their money and now they're having to skip meals, can't send their children to school because the government shut the schools down, young people can't get an education because there's no money left to buy paper for exams, they're having to use firewood because there's no more gas and electricity has been cut and they're "legally" supposed to be inside their homes because the government enforced a curfew. All of that while the president and his family live comfortably inside their homes. Notice the stark difference?

@XX-gy7ue What do you expect them to do? Sit and starve to death? Their president is living in luxury while he shuts the schools down preventing students from learning, ordering electricity blackouts for the entire nation but making sure the electricity remains on for his own home, ordering the police to use violence against protestors and implementing a curfew to prevent people from leaving their own homes.

...because it's not a right wing insurrection. It's an insurrection or rebellion but it's not right wing. These are people who are taking their country back from the president that stole of their money and ruined turned their lives upside down.
