North Korea's fertility rate is also below replacement level and Kim Jong-un said it is a North Korean woman's patriotic duty to have a child.

@esparda07 Fertility rates are below replacement across Southeast Asia and India. Singapore has the second lowest fertility rate in the world and Thailand's fertility rate is rapidly declining. Fertility rates across most of the rest of Southeast Asia are either at replacement level, close to it or below it. India's fertility rate is below replacement level, most of its states have below replacement level fertility and its urban fertility rate stands at 1.6. Yesterday, Bloomberg published an article about South India's rapidly declining fertility crisis. Stop pretending to be Indian or Southeast Asian cause if you were, you would know all of this.

Singapore has other political parties. People vote in elections. It's not a one-party state. The difference is that Singaporeans have so much trust in the PAP (the party that transformed Singapore into a developed nation) that they continue to vote for it. They know the PAP is the party that can maintain prosperity in Singapore.

@containedhurricane China is NOT democracy, Singapore is a democracy with elections.
9
A lot of countries say they could've been like that but they didn't. That's because they never had the right forward thinking leaders that believed in things like meritocracy.
8
@containedhurricane because people vote for the PAP all the time. I already explained it in my previous comment. No, it's not similar to China at all.

Most of Asia has declining fertility rates now, even the poor developing nations.

@NoobGamer-ki9pz Well yes being neutral is maintaining relations with all parties instead of picking sides and putting all of your eggs in one basket. Instead you put your eggs in all baskets.

Public housing in Singapore is not like public housing in your country. There is a HUGE difference.

@watch1981 People calling Singapore a dictatorship, don't know what a dictatorship is. If Singapore is a dictatorship, I would like to know what people think North Korea, Turkmenistan and Eritrea are?
4
@NewmaticKe Lee Hsien Loong is not a dictator. There was literally an election in Singapore in 202 in which Lee Hsien Loong won, he's just stepping down from the role now. EDUCATE YOURSELF!

@Aadarsh__purush Always blaming others. It's 2024, the rest of Asia is charging ahead and yet India still remains almost the same as it did in the 1990s. Be serious.
3
@dylanpt2220 Yeah it is a democracy, maybe look up what democracy means
3
@NoobGamer-ki9pz Neutrality is simply not getting involved in the logistics of an issue. Generally speaking, humanitarian efforts supersedes geopolitics. So that doesn't effect India's neutrality. India's neutrality is played out it in it relations on the geopolitical landscape. Hope this helps.

The migration of Malaysian workers and other Asian nationalities to Singapore to work is something that happened largely after the country's economic transformation. More affluent countries need workers, it's happening all over Asia - even Thailand uses labour from Myanmar and Cambodia. Idk why you're clutching pearls right now.
2
@watch1981 You don't know what a one party state is then.

@dylanpt2220 Argentina, the next Singapore but not Vietnam??? HAHAHAHAHAHA part of the success of Singapore is because it followed Asian principles or what Lee Kuan Yew called "Asian values". Since when is Argentina an Asian nation??

William Gibson said that and William Gibson is an American. Last time I checked, the US has the death penalty and yet Americans seem to believe they are morally better. I think for a nation where people are high on drugs, where mass shootings are a daily occurrence, where racism is normalised, where flunking school is a flex and violence is part and parcel of society, the US has no right to be pointing fingers at anybody and yes Singapore is indeed a utopian society in Asia.
2
or you're somebody living in the US, am I right???

Okay and what's your point????????
1
@jerryn9690 Right?? Idek why they said that LOL
1
@watch1981 I'm not actually Singaporean, so joke's on you
1
@NewmaticKe These non-Asians come here and start calling Singapore a dictatorship, I'd love to hear what they call civil war-riddled Myanmar led by Min Aung Hlaing if they think Lee Hsien Loong is a dictator

It's funny how people call Singapore's government a dictatorship, it shows that they don't know what an actual dictatorship is.

Asia is the face of three major demographic decline crises. The first being the rapid fertility decline across parts of the region, especially in East Asia, Singapore and Thailand, the second being the rapid aging crisis which is affecting East Asia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka and the "get old before they get rich" crisis that is affecting certain middle income developing nations in South and Southeast Asia like Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam as explained by The Economist last year.
