@CrimsonAlchemist The Japanese literally believed they were the master race of the Asian people. They saw all other Asian groups as lower than them. Apart from committing some of the worst forms of crimes against humans in history, they also believed in Japanese culture being superior to all other Asian cultures (even though they adopted a lot of influences from mainland Asia, especially China). They instructed people in colonised lands to learn Japanese and adopt Japanese culture. There are propaganda posters from Japanese-ruled Malaya instructing the local Malays, Chinese and Indians to "Learn Japanese!" with a drawing of a Malay boy speaking Japanese instead of Malay. They treated the Chinese with utter contempt everywhere they went. What exactly would have happened? A lot of Asian cultures would have been lost and diluted and replaced with Japanese culture.

@dearg_doom When Japanese nationalists say that Asia was decolonised they are speaking about the South Asian and Southeast Asian nations that became independent from Europeans, not China and the Koreas which were never colonised by Europeans. If you go to Yasukuni Shrine you'll find an entire display that propagates this narrative. There is a huge map of South and Southeast Asia on a wall and it basically says that they were all freed because of the Japanese. There are also photos of various South and Southeast Asian leaders from Myanmar, India etc. praising Japan and imagery and text displaying Japanese propaganda and pan-Asian themes.

@zyanego3170 Singapore was NOT a marvellous colony lmao. It was an incredibly poor racially segregated (at the hands of the British) colony with high poverty and illiteracy and incredibly weak. Singapore is marvellous today because Singaporeans overcame their racially divided past, united and worked on becoming a developed nation. Now they are one of the most advanced nations on earth, a lot more advance than the UK.
