Salameh, for his part, served as deputy head of the propaganda unit of Islamic Jihad's Shaboura Battalion. Shabat was described as a sniper in Hamas' Beit Hanoun Battalion. Al-Sarraj was a member of Islamic Jihad's Bureij Battalion, while Abu Omar served as a training company commander in the Eastern Khan Younis Battalion and had been wounded in an Israeli airstrike months earlier. Finally, al-Arrouqi was a team commander in Hamas's Nuseirat Battalion.
