  6. The way I understand this problematic is that there has historically been a big problem with both drivers and running windows programs on linux. Valve would like to give us a "default" linux distro (SteamOS) that can be a good enough competitor to windows(which is quite a low bar considering the size of microsoft) and wants to use steam deck to finally set this plan into motion. Benefits of doing so are obvious both for us and for valve. For this reason alone I don't think usage of proprietary drivers even matters, as this will just force push linux into peoples computers, which outweighs anything else. If you want to have only open source sw in your linux, you still can.

But they became available in a way where a 5th grader could use them. Get a token, do requests.get and there you go, you have your very own custom chatbot... The program still runs on a computer, and where exactly it runs is often super important. Storage as a service, network as a service, cpu as a service, your mom as a service. I'm tired of this. I feel so sorry for newcomers to programming having to learn this stuff, which noone tells them is completely useless for 99.99% of people, ending up not learning it anyways, because they would need to understand non-cloud in order to even realize why people are doing this.   44. They are such a good books that I literally had to print the pdf I bought and I'm keeping it on the table(the only books there). They introduced me to such a different world with all the formalising right from the basics. I haven't even conpleted it, because it's just so packed with interesting thoughts. One thing to note is that these books only deal with real analysis(I hope I'm right on this). It's a timeless book, but somehow this not the standard of how the subject is taught and the book isn't even that popular, should get waay more press imo.

  55. I've seen a guy hack a phone by reading the passwords on disk, decrypting it with a key that's also stored on the disk. The scary part is not only do you export all your data to the cloud where it can be stolen, but more likely people just read it, but even if someone just has physical access to your phone, he can get anything he want, provided he has enough skill. It's like privacy doesn't exist if you're good enough.

  58. I think that if the 1st month isn't you alone or with like 2 other people experimenting via code in the basement somewhere, you're doing something wrong. Time to market is extremely important unless said otherwise. So is your own experience with your product and a clear vision. So is getting the architecture at least partially right. And you can't really do either of those things, unless you do a deep dive into what it is you want to be doing to get at least a bit of experience(with the tech, with the domain knowledge, with the problem statement, with the market). I wrote this blind before watching, wonder if I'll get beaten with a stick now.

They locked down the public offering to offer it to one company, they said it was for security concerns, as the database of vehicles was supposed to contain identification of vehicles of secret services(unsolvable problem, apparently). This is probably worth about 200K a year or something. For us, this is a lot of money, considering that for me this is a weekend project.

Maybe it's stemming from my lack of experience, but introducing a 'needless' abstraction for the reason of readability or testability always makes me ponder the future and I end up abstracting everything instead of writing actual code and doing poor job even at that, because not having actual logic skews my perception of what's going to be important or subject to change. Then I just end up with bloated code that's paradoxically hard to read because you always have to switch screens between functions. Maybe this stuff becomes way more advantageous in big projects, which I haven't been a part of, but for everyone else, it just seems like a waste of time, especially if you're coding solo.
