  1. and here is the heart of the problem. derussification = compelling Russian speakers and ethnic Russians to look to Russia to confirm their identity, rather than to the tolerant and accepting Ukraine pre 2014. Had Ukraine practiced the inclusivity preached by the West, we would never have arrived at this point. There are reasons why Crimea and Donbass abandoned Ukraine, and it wasn't any shift in attitudes in Moscow, but in Kiev.
