because that's irrelevant

@ReggieThePug now that I agree with. it is absolutely shameful that the government that got us into this mess should have any pay rise at all. in fact, the salary for a government MP should be the inverse of the inflation they are responsible for. 12% inflation should = 12% decrease in MPs pay.

@lewisdelicata5334 a windfall tax discourages investment, plain and simple. lower investment = increased poverty. If a business has two locations in mind to open a new branch/operation, and one is prone to windfall tax announcements, and one isn't, guess which location gets the new branch/operation, Einstein?

@lewisdelicata5334 Might I add, if companies already aren't paying their fair share, having them leave doesn't exactly impact us. After all, they already weren't paying. 1) they already weren't paying ANYTHING? or they already weren't paying their "fair share"? so we haven't lost anything if a company that pays 1 million tax a year and employees 1000 people decides to leave because you decided their "fair share" was 1.5 million tax a year? we end up with no net loss? really? welcome to the loony Left School of Economics!

@YA-hm5zy of course it will not stop them investing. we all know that. windfall taxes however will REDUCE their investments, and lower investments = greater poverty.

every consumer that applauded lockdowns, green energy, sanctions on Russia, mass immigration, unlimited aid to Ukraine, you have exactly what you deserve. enjoy every minute of it.
2
@lewisdelicata5334 yes it does. unless you drastically reduce government spending and stop printing money you will not get out of the crisis.
2
@michaewelina7983 what is "abusive margin increase"? sounds like you too want to do everything possible to drive as much investment out of the country and thus increase poverty.
2
@MrSize14feet which would drive up poverty even more given your massive incentive to companies to leave UK
2
@lewisdelicata5334 of course people are freezing and starving. what do you expect with government debts as they are? lockdowns, green energy, sanctions on Russia, all have to be paid for! If you want to change the law on corporate tax rates, go ahead. it will just push companies to leave UK and investment to crash, making the problems worse. we went through this in the 70's and the only answer was major reductions in government spending.

@lewisdelicata5334 1) they don't just pack up an oil refinery. they wind down business and eventually close it, moving operations to a more business friendly place like Mexico. Multinationals make such decisions all the time 2) wind turbines only exist because of government subsidies, so it doesn't make any sense for a government subsidized business to then have to pay the government more in tax, which the government then gives back in the form of a subsidy! Dude! 3) a lot of businesses are services, they have very little to up and move. kill the goose that lays the golden egg and you screwed.

@davidstrelec2000 because the alternative, relying on state command economies, has been much more of a failure than capitalism ever was, unless you particularly admire the life in North Korea and Cuba
1
@Jumper4ever93 just helping you deal with your denial phase
1
@michaewelina7983 investment is no excuse. it's just a fact of life. anything you do to discourage investment, and windfall taxes are a big disincentive to investment, leads to funds leaving the country and less government revenue. just facts.

@danielle4295 because that is the free market. if you don't like your energy company, fire them, go elsewhere.
1
@danielle4295 as I said, this is what everyone should have expected. you can't avoid having to pay for lockdowns, green energy, sanctions on Russia, unlimited aid, to Ukraine, mass immigration. if you can't change energy providers and get a better deal, you are stuck. and no other political party wants different policies, so I guess Parliament doesn't really care. maybe go to France and come back to UK in a boat full of Albanians and claim asylum.

@Jumper4ever93 in the meantime, any single point I made you would like to counter in substance?
1
@Jumper4ever93 as suspected, incapable of making any point of substance, ok dunce, bye bye
