Comments by "duncan smith" (@duncansmith7562) on "Cost of living crisis: inflation barely drops as Brexit fuels food price rise" video.
who would have ever guessed that paying people to stay home and not work for months on end would have caused inflation?

if that is the real problem, then every single food producer has agreed to form a cartel, and not single one of them has refused to join the cartel and offer slighltly lower prices to corner the market. really?

@ant318 oh, i see, so when EU countries have a much worse situation than the UK it is for reasons OTHER than Brexit, but when UK has a worse situation than certain EU nations, then the cause MUST be Brexit. Got it. By the way, walk me through it, why would a "border situation" result in rampant inflation? explain, step by step .

no doubt Brexit is also the reason record food inflation has hit Estonia and Lithuania too.

@truthandfreedom8145 and so when prices go down it's also intentional, you fool?

@noseboop4354 no one is disputing the numbers. some of us are disputing the causes and saying it's market forces. No evidence of a cartel.

"the war in Ukraine is what ignited the surge in gas prices". No, stop lying. it was the West's decision to sanction Russia and opt for more expensive gas suppliers. Be honest.

@truthandfreedom8145 so does this price fixing only apply to food? let's take the case of phones, and technology in general. the price trend has been downward as devices become more available. why is there no price fixing there to make sure they go ever upwards? same with energy prices. they rise and fall. why would they ever fall if there was a price fixing cartel? and if food prices are never going to fall, ever again, why is it just the food companies securing ever rising prices, not EVERY industry? why would property prices ever fall? why would air fares ever fall?

@bereal6590 this is very simple. if the problem is a lack of competition, and an illegal cartel is in operation, take them to court. if the problem is a lack of competition due to too much regulation to entice new players into the market, get rid of the regulations that stifle competition. if the problem is just that people must pay more for food these days, so be it. what is ridiculous is your incessant whining about "these capitalists are making too much money". if they are breaking a law, take them to court. if they are NOT breaking any laws, STFU, or elect a government that will cap supermarket profits. good luck with that nonsense.

@varunmittal3617 describe the mechanism by which food prices are artificially maintained

@rsmith2312 Ukraine has nothing to do with it. it's the sanctions on Russia our leaders decided were such a good idea. also, covid is a virus and is blameless. it's shutting down the economy that our leaders decided was such a wonderful solution to the nation's well-being. otherwise, totally agree with you.
