@oldskoolrools1353 am happily retired in France, no need of any extra rubles, thanks. Having worked in Ukraine, I have a passion for highlighting the horrors of that place, and yes, I think Putin is right on the Ukraine issue, though I would prefer Medvedev to be the Russian leader. the ruble and the Russian economy are doing just fine. Russia allows the value of the ruble to fall when the cause is a rise in purchases of imports. don't worry, it's Western banks and companies in big trouble, not Russia's.

just hilarious that a reporter in a country that has banned RT and Sputnik, in a country that broadcasts non stop pro NATO news, thinks it is only Russians in Russia that are denied balanced media coverage.

@jeremytine when was the last time you were in either Russia or Ukraine? why choose GDP as a measure of economic strength?

@jeremytine of course it is a common metric for economists, and GDP is verifiable. but a common metric to show what, exactly? you see, Italy has a higher GDP than Russia, but Italy could not sustain the sanctions that have been imposed on Russia if they were imposed on Italy, and Italy could not wage a war the way Russia is doing, so of what value is a GDP number in our discussion?

@jeremytine and you were trying to show that GDP is some kind of reliable metric to show that Western banking is in better shape than Russian banking, but GDP is related to a nation's output, not a company's profitability, so you got it all wrong to start with. No Russian banks have failed recently, as opposed to those like Credit Suisse in the West. But if you do want to talk about nations and GDP, my point that GDP does NOT measure the true state of a nation's economy is true. the true measure is whether a nation exports what the world needs, and Russia is in such a strong position because it exports what the world needs, oil, gas, coal, wheat, fertilizers, uranium, precious metals. so when Russia barks, the world listens. when Italy barks, no one hives a s**t. ditch the GDP argument, it's worthless.

@jeremytine mismanagement in Western banking is just the tip of the iceberg. the general malaise in Western banking is because limitless credit and cheap money have run their course and hard times are starting to hit. GDP is a useless measure to evaluate how a nation is performing. as i showed you, a nation's exports are the true measure of its importance and global influence, not GDP. this is why fools like you thought that sanctions would work. they would against places like Italy. not Russia. thanks for admitting that Sberbank makes a profit! the aim of the sanctions was to cripple Russia, not to reduce Russian profits! ouch! just out of interest, which package of EU sanctions hurt Russia the most, do you think? number 3? package number 8? ouch. inflation rate declining in Russia. not so in the West. ouch
