Comments by "duncan smith" (@duncansmith7562) on "Why the war in Ukraine has bogged down - and how this might change | DW Analysis" video.
Yet again, DW refuses to state whether Ukraine's lack of supplies is because NATO is unable to match Russia in production, or because NATO chooses not to send Ukraine what it needs. Until Western media deal with this question, and the embarrassing answer that NATO can't match Russia, no progress will be made in understanding why Russia is winning.

If the casualty rate is high, then the fighting is not "bogged down". In a war of attrition, one side, whether the front lines move or not, will run out of manpower/weapons/ammo/funding first, you choose which one Ukraine will run out of first..

precisely. NATO is fixated only on the lack of movement of the front lines, and they confuse that with a lack of Russian progress.

@sammiller6631 12 times the size of Russia's economy as measured by.......? Keep in mind, GDP includes all government spending, which means all the money printed to keep high levels of debt going, hardly a basis for measuring the strength of an economy!

@dain6250 1. what defines a "war economy"? in what way is Russia's economy on a war footing whereas NATO's is not? 2. so your answer is that NATO chooses not to do what is necessary to supply Ukraine adequately. makes "as long as it takes" sound a little hollow, right? 3. what convinces you that NATO, even implementing a war economy, would out-produce Russia? 4. with all those Abrams tanks stuck behind Russian minefields, why has NATO chosen to send a bunch of extensive sitting ducks for the Russians to destroy?
3
@sammiller6631 you're making the same mistake as all the NATO leaders made at the beginning of this conflict. Western leaders just assumed the massive difference in GDP between the West and Russia meant it would be fairly straight forward to destroy the Russian economy. What the West failed to realize was that Russia works very closely with BRICS and OPEC and other sanctioned nations, so that, in fact, the West is up against the rest of the world! Also, Russia exports commodities that the world needs, so the value of its exports are far greater than the West's. Don't confuse price with value.

@sammiller6631 and China has a lot more people than NATO and is best buddies with Russia, but not sure what your point is. More people doesn't equal more output. There are many more factors than that. "Bigger peace time economy" only if looking at the very dubious metric of GDP. A much more reliable indicator would be export of commodities. No one really needs all Italy's exports of Gucci fashion accessories, but Russia's grain, uranium, and oil are pretty darn useful to the world. "all those Abrams" was a sarcastic comment. "All those Abrams" are useless when stuck behind Russian minefields.

Mike Martin is just one of the many charlatans that has spent 2 years selling the lie that Ukraine is winning. Now that his pipe dream is going up in smoke, he is reduced to blabbing nonsense just to fill air time. really sad.

@sammiller6631 again, the "worth" of agricultural exports is misleading. Africa starts wringing its hands when Russian wheat becomes scarce, not when Dutch greenhouse avocados are running out!
1
@WhatsupDoc-01 the economic crisis in the UK is so severe that people are talking of "heating or eating" this winter, yet some deluded commentators think NATO can announce imposing a war economy, and the masses will all cheer with wild enthusiasm.
1
@sammiller6631 Money can't buy you everything, Sam! The reality is the West has spent decades decreasing its military capacity and production, so now all the money in the world can't purchase weaponry that doesn't exist. That is why Russia has gained such a massive advantage by allying with Iran, N Korea and China. NATO is tapped out, reduced to sending cluster munitions, and "ramping up" production is a slow, cumbersome process.

@sammiller6631 China is not shrinking. You mean India is growing faster than China. Either way, you are now making my point. If manpower is of such importance, Russia and Russia's allies (and yes, both China and India are much more supportive of Russia than they are of the West) have a massive advantage over the West. Manpower favors Russia + Russia's allies. If manpower is key, getting Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia would be key, but the West doesn't seem to be making many inroads there!
1
@goldensch4440 yep, it's curious why Western media refuse to answer the question of why the West doesn't supply Ukraine with what Ukraine needs. It's the elephant in the room.
1
@sammiller6631 7% of Russia is a massive area, but given that half of Ukraine's population has left Ukraine, is displaced or killed, all that "farmable land" in Ukraine is useless without farmers.
1
@fullimetal7581 well, it hasn't been addressed because no one in the mainstream media is saying that NATO isn't supplying Ukraine with what it needs because NATO doesn't care about Ukraine.
1
@SmilingNinja still got the vaseline on hand for your repeated Banderite visitors up the back passage?
1
@alexanderhowarth6460 some of us would say the reason is 100% relevant, because if NATO is incapable of supplying Ukraine adequately, all our leaders need to confess this truth to the public and apologize to Ukraine.
1
@alexanderhowarth6460 whether trees or wood, some of us want some honesty from our leaders. why the constant appeals from Ukraine for more weapons when the West has agreed to supply Ukraine with what it needs?
