yeah. let's ditch the idea of private property and have the state take over all housing. after all, it worked so well in the USSR and works wonderfully in Cuba

"the authorities do little about it" why should they? you chose to live there.

how about you identify the real problem? EU laws. EU law allows freedom of movement, so Germans, Swedes and Dutch can buy whatever property they want and live wherever they want, so the locals get priced out. End freedom of movement and you solved your problem.

@Coprofighter not for the first time in your life, your assumption is wrong. shocking news for you, there are many who are not big earners and who live very modestly but who understand how politics and economics work. there is a much bigger danger in combatting "selfish" capitalism than in "selfish" capitalism itself. see what happened to the USSR and Venezuela and Cuba.

@Coprofighter Being wrong about a political or economic philosophy is one thing, but it's far removed from being wrong about assumptions made about a total stranger's income, which is the absurd assumption you made. next time, combat ideas and don't assume you know a thing about someone's personal circumstances.

@Coprofighter apology accepted. I have empathy for anyone who lives in such a "dramatic situation" if it is by pure chance, and a lot less empathy for those who brought their situation on themselves through some really bad choices. where we disagree is that i don't see any government action as any solution. winning the hearts and minds of those that could help voluntarily is the key, not forcing ever more rules and regulations on people. the housing shortage in the West has occurred through government policy, 1. endless importation of massive numbers of immigrants, and 2. disincentivizing investors from considering investment in long term rentals. government ineptitude is the problem, and government is not the solution.

@Coprofighter just keep in mind that many of us on the Right live vey modestly and we have plenty of empathy for those who deserve it, we just don't agree with you that government intervention is any kind of solution.

@gossipqueen1013 agreed, better allow someone with common sense take your airbnb, you pay twice as much and stay in a hotel with half the facilities, that is what you deserve.

@lunayen "those who snatched up multiple homes" how do you do that? you mean bought and invested in multiple homes? what's wrong with that?
1
@celinepa8246 so if all the money goes to the AIRs, what do the employees of those AIRs do with the their salaries and tips?

tourists have choices. if 90% of the tourists refuse to pay the the 50 euro tax, the government will fail to raise any revenue and the economy will die.
