@zenon7094 Why should Russia have stopped fueling this conflict? when you have right on your side, and defending the rights of ethnic Russians is the right thing to do, fueling the conflict makes perfect sense.

difference is Putin had, and has, all the time in the world. the priority was not seizing territory, but massacring the enemy, street by street. while the kill rate is in Russia's favor, which it is, and while Russia can replace its weaponry and ammo as it is used up, which it can, Ukraine can only lose.

just a question of which comes first for Ukraine. 1. runs out of fighting aged men 2. runs out of weaponry. 3. runs out of ammo 4. runs out of US Congressional support voting for unlimited aid. Place your bets.

Neither of those two could punch their way out of a wet paper bag! or, let me guess, you really think a Finnish and Swedish presence in Kabul would have deterred the Taliban from kicking NATO's a*s in 2021?

@andybassman104 given that Putin has totally demilitarized NATO to the point NATO can now send only cluster bombs, such is its shortage of real artillery shells, doesn't really matter how many broke, pansy, effete nations without weapons join NATO.

@thetombaxter sadly, you are mistaken. 1. Putin controls his oligarchs. In Ukraine it is the other way around, and the oligarchs there control Zelensky. 2. Many of us that understand these matters were not surprised to see Prigozhin in open revolt. And neither were we surprised to see all of Russia remain loyal to Putin. 3. Japan and Australia "gearing up"? Gearing up for what? Neither has the capacity to match Russia in arms production or come anywhere near it! you make the same mistake as Western leaders...you woefully underestimate Russia's strength to endure.

@thetombaxter "Assad must go" was the repeated cry of all the Western leaders, who have since gone, but Assad is still in power. "Putin is on the way out" shout all the Western leaders, who one by one get kicked out, Johnson, Truss, Marin, Draghi, soon Sanchez, Rutte, Macron with no parliamentary majority, Scholz in a shaky coalition, Biden with a year to go. Putin will survive, magnificently. The Prigozhin mutiny showed how solid support for Putin is, No one, all the way from Rostov to Voronezh, came out in support for Prigozhin. Same wouldn't happen if Biden or Macron were challenged! the deluded, like you, have to keep thinking regime change in Moscow is your only hope, as it is clear sanctions have failed and Russia is winning the war. Keep clutching at straws.

@thetombaxter oh, clearly you are ignorant of the situation. let me set you straight. the aim is not to conquer Ukraine. why would Putin want to inherit places like Lvov where hatred of Russia is boundless? The aim is to complete the 5 objectives as set out at the start (you are aware of the 5 objectives, yeah?) Remember, before a Russian soldier had set foot in Crimea, the Crimean Parliament in Simferopol had voted 78-0 for separation from Kiev (it's something called a "democratic vote"...an alien concept to you if you are from certain parts of the West, maybe). So, annexing Crimea took no time because almost all of Crimea are ethnic Russians and cheered it on. Take a look at how long Russia took to eliminate the enemy in Syria. It takes years. Ukraine might take less time, but not a lot less, because Zelensky is more than happy to keep serving up the cannon fodder into the Russian meatgrinder, but still, to eliminate every single fighting age male does take time. end of 2024 is my prediction for the 5 objectives to be declared fulfilled, unless war is declared.
