Comments by "duncan smith" (@duncansmith7562) on "Russia announces temporary cease-fire in Ukraine | DW News" video.
@DennisTheInternationalMenace as I said, Ukrainian sovereignty was overthrown with a coup, and rightly, Crimea and Donbass refused to recognize any new leader installed by the oligarch/Azov/US "elections". With the democratically elected president overthrown, Ukraine abandoned its sovereignty.

Putin wants a half time pause, not to end the match, nothing wrong with that. Ukraine gave up its nukes but then gave up its sovereignty with the 2014 coup, so the sovereignty for nukes deal was annulled.

@Fr0mSpac3 don't confuse poor David! He has dutifully learned the mantra "Russia bad, Ukraine good" and now you cite an example of Ukrainian evil and poor David will have a meltdown!
2
@DingDong-gn7hj Ukraine is indeed separate from Russia, but Ukraine never separated from Russia. Learn the difference. Russia is doing in Ukraine what it did in Georgia, Chechnya, Transnistria, ...supporting the democratic rights of ethnic Russians. Equal rights for ethnic Russians = no problems with Putin. It's not about dominance, but fairness. Learn the basics.
2
@bonnie7898 Russia has every right to dictate to Ukraine when Russia feels its security is threatened. This right was established in the 1960's when the USA declared it had every right to dictate Cuba's defence policy in the Cuban missile crisis. Again, Russia is just following the precedent set by the USA.
2
@bonnie7898 when you say there was a "popular uprising", exactly what percentage of the Ukrainian population participated in and supported this uprising? Specific number with source, please.
2
@bonnie7898 you see, my Ukrainian students told me that this "uprising" was, in fact, actually not that popular. what first hand evidence do you have that it was overwhelmingly popular?
2
@bigbrowntau Scotland, for sure
1
@davidwolf8991 all Ukrainians speak Russian, you dope.
1
@alienfish8521 au contraire. Russia has the option of winning and taking what it wants.
1
@Huppy1234567 or they can go to Russia and bring their ancestral lands with them. Ukraine is a massive country for just Ukrainians to live in.
1
@urikamoment except you don't. you know nothing about the war crimes that are happening. nothing.
1
@braxxian and boy, is Zelensky a despot!
1
@DingDong-gn7hj Nothing? you are ignorant. Two areas of Georgia erupted into fighting and Abkhazia and South Ossetia allied with Russia! Ukraine never separated from Russia. learn some history. "they love Russian rule and law, move to Russia"....they have. and they have brought their ancestral lands with them:) job done
1
@unregisturd and boy is it hard work to keep straightening out the unthinking on these issues!:)
1
@mikadsu if Ukraine violates a ceasefire, Zelensky can kiss goodbye to any future support from neutral countries and will lose support from some who tepidly support him now. But Zelensky is a clown puppet, he will probably go ahead and keep on killing while the opposition lays down arms for a ceasefire
1
@davidwolf8991 important to understand how little you understand these issues, so keep learning and try to improve
1
@DennisTheInternationalMenace Putin is offering a ceasefire so that if Zelensky refuses, the rest of the world will see that Ukraine is the one looking to continue killing on the holiest day of the year for most Ukrainians
1
@bigbrowntau wanna bet?
1
@davidwolf8991 I don't know what you know but I can see from your comments there is a lot that you certainly don't know. You need to learn a LOT about the background to this conflict. Ever been to Ukraine, have you?
1
@bonnie7898 Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were indeed Ukrainian citizens. They gave up that citizenship when they saw the coup of 2014 unfold, and they opted for independence. Happens all the time in world history. The Donbass ethnic Russians were the ones who DID respect Ukrainian democracy by refusing to recognize the 2014 coup. it was the rest of Ukraine that decided to stop respecting the institutions of their home country. Learn the basics.
1
@bonnie7898 glad you finally recognize the events of 2014 as a coup d'etat. you are beginning to understand why Crimea and Donbass wanted to be free from Ukraine.
1
@urikamoment we don't. only your deluded brainwashed mind assumes Russia has a monopoly on war crimes.
1
@puraLusa yes, just one. why run like cowards and not stay and fight these thugs?
1
@bonnie7898 Ukraine for one! Ukraine is bankrupt and is totally dependent on US aid, so it has been effectively taken over and ruled by force...Ukraine has no choice in the matter. By your own definition, you have established that USA is an occupying force. If you want to stick to a literal definition of occupy, how about that portion of Syria occupied by the US? When will that third of Syria be liberated?
1
@bonnie7898 "NATO is not a hostile entity" Try telling that to the Libyans and Serbians massacred by NATO bombs.
1
@bonnie7898 it's the truth. learn the basics and grasp the reality.
1
@DingDong-gn7hj no, you are NOT there to offer me shelter. Not at all. It may well be that I deserve to suffer the full fury of the tornado, that I deserve no shelter. Depends what kind of person I am.
1
@alexandratheavenger3436 no. Ukraine was foolish to embark on nationalist Russophobic policies that alienated half the country. Plenty of countries have no nuclear arms and they are neutral and they live wonderful lives.
1
@groomboek1978 bad guess. anyone suspected of colluding with Russia will be executed, has already happened.
1
@joda7129 and Russian speaking Ukrainians being forced to use Ukrainian is an idea cheered on by the West, though the West also cheer on the right of Catalans to use Catalan, and not Spanish. hypocrites.
1
@DSan-kl2yc You see nothing happening to those suspected of collaborating with Russia because your media refuse to show such. the recriminations that actually happen are awful and yes, Russia has no monopoly on war crimes.
1
@bonnie7898 protesting what? when?
1
@bonnie7898 1) Russia's security is threatened by the West, hence Lloyd Austin's pronouncement "the aim is to weaken Russia". Besides, if Russia perceives that the West is a security threat, the right thing to do is sit down and talk about such perceptions, but Biden chose not to do that in December 2021. Colossal mistake.
1
@bonnie7898 Finding out what NATO "does" is not done by typing into a search engine! How naive are you, sweet child? Just watch the NATO bombs fall on Serbia for 78 nights straight, and watch NATO bombs destroy Libya to SEE the truth! You need to get out of your search engine and start looking at reality!
1
@bonnie7898 here are the facts. USA dictated to Cuba, a sovereign country, that Cuba would NEVER be allowed to host nuclear missiles. Russia is now dictating to Ukraine that Ukraine will never be a NATO country and will never have nuclear weapons. Russia is copying, exactly, the US policy. Through the Monroe Doctrine, US has dictated policy from its position of strength, to countless countries "in its backyard", e.g. the invasions of Panama and Grenada. Russia is now applying the same doctrine to its neighbors in it's backyard. You should be applauding Russia's adherence to the "rules-based order" of the West.
1
@bonnie7898 no reliable source will tell you the hearts and minds of the Ukrainian population regarding the 2014 coup. but let us assume the number of protesters on the streets numbered one million. compare that to the 40 million who chose not to protest on the streets. 39:1 ratio for those who didn't want a revolution? suddenly this revolution doesn't look so popular, right?
1
Good move by Putin. Will galvanise even more support back home.
1
yet again, the Western fabrication of Putin's "win the war in 3 days". so funny how ignorant the West is regarding Putin. reporters who never saw how Putin fought in Chechnya or Syria.
