totally unwinnable for Ukraine. Russia hasn't even mobilized for war, and has 3 times the population of Ukraine. The West is powerless to prevent Russia taking out the Ukrainian power grid whenever it so chooses. opposition to this war will grow a lot quicker in the West than in Russia. Disinterest in this war will grow a lot quicker in the west than in Russia. Ukraine's objectives are totally unrealistic. Russia will win.

@IAm-NotHear sure, if you measure success by land. but territory can be regained. lives can't. in terms of lives, the evidence suggests Ukraine is losing a lot more troops and can't readily replace them. guess what happens when Ukraine cannon fodder is all wiped out? Russia takes whatever land it wants. so a map of territory won or lost is meaningless unless you have a counter next to it adding up all the dead troops on both sides.

@theTeknoViking made no difference to the outcome, just delaying the outcome. 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers dead, according to General Milley, so maybe NATO's weapons have kept that horrific death toll a bit lower than expected?

@LS_CHIPO21 what information? kill rate? New Atlas, Scott Ritter, Douglas MacGregor, Duran, Ribar, and Ukrainian sources, that freely admit that artillery is fired 6:1 in Russia's favor. I mean you can believe six times more artillery is raining down on Ukrainian positions than Russian, but somehow, by magic, Ukraine's losses are a lot less than Russia's, but it makes no sense. let me suggest what you are hearing is willful thinking, just hope, and not based on any logic or evidence

@Goliath so if US was fighting in much easier circumstances in Iraq and it took 6 months to fully capture Fallujah, safe to say Russia is doing a much more impressive job with its progress in Donbass.

simple maths. if you can't be sure of the kill rate (and many believe it is about 8:1 in Russia's favor) you can't be sure how this conflict is going.

Western leaders know the truth. this war is unwinnable for Ukraine, but given the aim is to weaken Russia, down to the last Ukrainian soldier, the West feels it is doing ok. Ukraine will be destroyed and the West will move on to the next victim country. and looks like Russia won't be terribly weakened, so all in all, a futile war, but at least no NATO lads will get killed.

Ukraine is at the tipping point. Not Russia. If Russia forces Ukraine out of Soledar and Bakhmut, that will mean more Western taxpayers see this conflict as a losing cause and they will not want to keep funding it. Already, 30% of Germans polled said they want their government to push Ukraine into peace talks. Once that number hits 50%, and it will edge up to 50% with every kilometer gained by Russia and every village lost by Ukraine, then this futile war is over. Russia is not at the same tipping point. Every day that Ukraine is stepping back a few meters it appraoches the day the Western taxpayers shout "enough!"

@viewpoint365 NATO keeps raising the spector of Russia rolling into other countries once it's done with Ukraine, and then proceeds to tempt Russia to do exactly that by reducing NATO stocks to a bare minimum! Very tempting for Putin to nibble away at the Baltics just to see what sticks and stones NATO has left next year to resist him!

keep in mind Russia's objectives for victory are much more attainable than Ukraine's. when Donbass is fully under Russian control, and yes, that might take years, just as Russian operations did it in Chechnya and Syria, Putin can declare Ukraine demilitarized and denazified and objectives fulfilled. Putin will then only have to secure an agreement from Kiev for Ukraine to remain a neutral country, which Ukraine was close to agreeing back in March in Istanbul, and Putin has won. For Ukraine to win, what, all of Crimea to be liberated? with the 12 years olds and 80 year olds that will be the sole remaining male population of Ukraine? everyone knows Ukraine can't win. some are just fumbling for excuses to prolong the agony.

@sababugs1125 Russia fights to win, not to let the enemy disappear into caves and later return to claim victory, as in US style in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. Russia knows it takes time to kill all the fighting age men of the enemy. a long time and attrition is needed. Baghdad was never "taken". just occupied. learn the difference between Russian battle aims and NATO battle aims and you will see why Russia will win this.

@APW554 you are deluded and ill-informed. The vast majority of the planet doesn't care what happens in Ukraine and are not really pro or anti Russian. Most of the planet wants Russian energy, grain, fertlizers and precious metals to keep flowing and are happy to trade with Russia. BRICS are determined to keep helping Russia. It is only the deluded Western bubble that is against Russia, and even that is starting to crumble. latest poll in Germany says 30% of Germans now wish their government to push Ukraine to peace talks with Russia. Once that number is over 50%, this war is over.

Does NATO think Russia won't escalate the war if it starts to get pushed back into Crimea and Donbass? reveal the game plan. then again, could be that NATO has precious little to send.

And Biden thinks US and NATO interference in Ukraine would work out differently. Russia just called up about 350,000 reservists, so you think Ukraine suddenly found a million men to go on the offensive?

@ax0r Russia is summoning reservists to add to its troop build up. Ukraine is fully mobilized, conscripting ANY able bodied male, or even disabled according to the word on the street, to REPLACE its horrendous losses. learn the difference.
