would that be wood from chopped trees that were planted to offset carbon emissions?

@sophrapsune Putin having a great laugh at Euro Greens firing up coal powered plants and turning to nuclear and chopping down trees, and he's only just started
2
@entropy5431 not exactly, as the trees were planted to absorb CO2, now that said trees have been chopped down and can absorb no CO2, we are back to the excess carbon emissions of before! i actually think more CO2 is, on balance, a good thing, so i am not really against the idea, just the hypocrisy that loony Greens practise
1
@thegreatdane3627 still, you cut down trees that would have been helping the planet absorb more CO2, so bang go your Green credentials.
1
@gigachadsitler and could be that Indian diesel comes from Russia
1
@JM-zg2jg so, it doesn't matter how much we chop down or how much we plant? just as i thought, a scam, all this nonsense about "save the planet and plant a tree"
1
@thegreatdane3627 sure, if you favor fossil fuels and don't care about green energy.
1
@thegreatdane3627 time to help those low income folks and import cheap Russian gas
1
@mikafiltenborg7572 Putin really doesn't care, in case you haven't noticed
1
@entropy5431 so you cut down trees that can still absorb CO2 and replace them with other trees that also absorb CO2. you think this results in a net gain of trees to offset rises in CO2 levels?
1
@MotoRide. the idea was to plant vast forests to offset rising CO2 emissions, not to plant vast forests and then chop them down so that rising CO2 emissions can't be offset. with rising populations, mass immigration, pressure to build new houses and roads, not sure where any new forests would go anyway. better to just import cheap Russian gas

@puraLusa record trade deficit of 163 billion euros for the EU says you are wrong, Europe is in big trouble
1
@puraLusa Putin doesn't care, he has plenty of reliable customers elsewhere
1
@puraLusa 163 billion euro EU trade deficit, never been that level, totally unsustainable
1
@entropy5431 ok, give me the definition of carbon neutral and I'll then show you why chopping down trees doesn't help get us to carbon neutral
1
@entropy5431 ok, you clarified that, so makes sense now
1
take a look at a satellite map of Hispaniola and you can see the devastation wrought by a nation that chops down trees for fuel. The bare patch is Haiti. Right next to it, the extraordinarily green area, is Dominican Republic, where fossil fuels rule.

@siralexis6590 seeking solutions and finding good solutions to problems you yourselves created are two different situations. sadly, as you said, Europe is only at the stage of seeking solutions to self-inflicted problems, and the solutions, like using coal fired power stations, shows how desperate Europe is. Net zero? right, good joke.
1
@siralexis6590 meanwhile, in the real world..1) if the EU isn't interested in financing Russia, why did imports from Russia grow so much in 2022 compared to 2021? you lie. 2) your country has deluded itself into thinking Russia is an enemy. 3) Germany is dumb, it was warned by Trump, but did nothing, and now Germany is using coal fired power stations while it preaches about how Green it is! Dumb. 4) glad you have a variety of energy sources = glad you will be poorer and pay so much more for everything. 5) Russia is doing great right now. Ruble strong, exports up, most of the world in support of Russia. Learn the truth
1
@siralexis6590 which is fine, Russia has plenty of business that is reliable, and a lot that is with Europe, though it is unreliable. renewable energy is a lot more expensive, so get ready to be poorer. you deserve it.
1
@siralexis6590 there is no such thing as "green development" as "green" energy is more harmful to the planet than it is beneficial. Russia has not lost any customers that can't be replaced, which is why Europe's aim to cripple the Russian economy has failed, miserably. sorry to burst your bubble, but all Western technology is available to Russia. Sanctions don't work. Most of the technology needed comes from China and Russia itself, and the technology that originates in the West enters Russia via 3rd countries, like Turkey or UAE. Sanctions failed old boy, but sanctions are crippling the West big time. Learn the truth.
1
@siralexis6590 shooting yourself in the foot is when you end up with rampant inflation, a massive energy crisis and fuel poverty, no sign of getting out of it and a record trade deficit. That's what Europe did. Russia is doing just fine. No one in Russia talks about lowering the thermostat!
1
@puraLusa only 15 trillion of which is money printed by the central bank!
1
@thegreatdane3627 no, they can just be closed down due to absurdly high running costs
1
@puraLusa is government spending included in GDP, yes or no? simple question.
1
@thegreatdane3627 are profits up or down? let's keep an eye on 2023. doesn't make sense that energy costs shoot up but businesses don't notice any negative effect.
1
@thegreatdane3627 I would expect employment to go up as part of the covid recovery. I would be surprised if employment went up past pre covid levels given the energy costs to everyone. we will see.
1
On balance, more CO2 is a benefit for the planet, so makes no sense trying to reduce CO2 emissions.
1
@gertscheper9653 nothing really to explain. As William Happer explained, the benefits of a greener planet and bigger crop yields due to higher CO2 levels outweighs the small greenhouse effect CO2 actually creates.
1
@gertscheper9653 yep, someone who understands these things much better than you.
1
@gertscheper9653 the usual reaction from the water melons, can't counter the idea, just "lol" and continue on with the delusion of their world view
