the common European policy should be either a) tell Russia a terrible mistake was made and Europe wants to return to its trading relationship with Russia, and hope that Russia accepts (which it probably won't) b) pay for Russian oil and coal via third countries and pay a massive mark up, and beg USA for LNG at a massive mark up or c) just tell the masses a horrendous mistake was made and it's back to the middle ages, with strict fuel rationing and gathering firewood.

@hape3862 I am not committed to any energy policy. I am just fascinated by how so many people have become so deluded about the truth of the dire situation the West, in general, has put itself into. I am keen to see all the lies and nonsense about how the sanctions are working plays out. Yes, I'll enjoy watching the demise of the West, even though I am a part of it, because I believe in justice, and the West has blundered into a hopeless situation but keeps pretending it hasn't. it deserves to decline precipitously, and BRICS deserves to rise. it's just karma at work.

@hape3862 gas prices for the consumers are NOT down to pre-war levels. You need to take a look at some of the energy bills EU consumers have been sent. LNG tankers are indeed lined up to off load......simply because Europe has a dearth of LNG storage facilities, one of Europe's big problems. Order LNG, can't get it from boat to shore to customer. winter has not come yet, nor has EU's economic disaster...but like winter, we know economic disaster will come at some point. Yes, you are fine, now. will you be fine when you find grandma frozen to death on Christmas day?

the problem is the supply. price caps don't address the cause of the problem. price caps = shortages = rationing. (power outages) sanctions on Russia ruining Europe must faster than any negative influences on Russia.

@hape3862 exactly, no worries if someone else's grandma dies. got it. storage of LNG is full because there is so little storage capacity. it's like me saying my tiny little fridge is packed full, therefore I have enough for winter. it's nonsense. if storage capacity is not an issue, why is more storage capacity being constructed? when winter comes, the LNG can't be offloaded, stored and fed to consumers quick enough. again, that's why, in a mad panic, more storage is being built, but it takes years. full storage PLUS Nordtream working full flow gets you through a normal winter, NOT just storage (why do you think Nordtream 2 was built?). Government paying energy bills with more printed money just adds to inflation and keeps demand high, resulting in higher prices, shortages and rationing. basic economics. you'll see:)

Putin Aim 4.....secure Crimea as part of Russia. Done. When Ukraine surrenders it will be signed into the constitution, but of course, Crimea now has the buffer of Kherson and Zaporozhe between it and Ukraine, so it is now in the heart of Russia

@hape3862 and what truly fascinates me is how the West thinks it can get through all this indefinitely. Assuming no more energy comes from Russia, ever, how does Europe replace, immediately, the shortfall. "we'll be fine" is the most amusing, nonchalant yet ignorant reaction one could possibly imagine! ok, bring on winter and the next winter and the next winter and the next..you get my point.

@hape3862 and now the facts (as opposed to your delusions). Putin's 5 aims (as listed clearly at the war's start, you should have paid attention). 1) establish Ukraine as a neutral country, to be written into its constitution. now that NATO has made it clear it was only kidding about NATO membership for Ukraine, Ukraine is resigned to being neutral, and basically agreed to this in the Istanbul talks. Putin basically got what he wants there.

@hape3862 Putin Aim 5, clear Ukrainian forces out of Donbass. Lugansk has been liberated, and Donetsk will be too, slowly but surely. No timeline, just minimizing losses and meter by meter liberating the Donetsk oblast. overall for Putin, grade B. should have realized earlier that partial mobilization was needed, but he is on course for victory.

Putin aim 2 ....demilitarize Ukraine. yes, a few more thousand Ukrainian troops have still to be killed, but thanks to Zelensky ordering his cannon fodder to fight for every inch, and an estimated kill ratio of 5:1 in favor of Russia, demilitarization is on track. Nearly everything Ukraine started the war with, weapon wise, has been destroyed, and as a bonus, most of what NATO has sent has been destroyed, hence the permanent begging for "more weapons" from Ukraine every day. Demilitarization of Ukraine AND NATO close at hand. Biden is now down to ORDERING manufacture of weapons, existing stocks close to zero.

@hape3862 keep in mind that most of the world is either on Russia's side, or tacitly supports Russia. Mexico, Central America, all of South America. all of Africa, Middle East, most of Asia including the giants, India, China, Pakistan, Turkey. all happy and willing to trade and work with Russia. Even in Europe, Hungary and Serbia are fine with Russia's stance. The deluded West has managed to turn the rest of the world against it. The Global South is racing ahead with dedolarization, ignoring G7 pressure to isolate Russia, ready and willing to buy Russian energy aplenty, even Saudi Arabia and OPEC happy to assist Russia by reducing production. Only the deluded, like yourself, see Russia as isolated. the opposite has happened. it will just take the slow learners, like you, a while to see it.

@saba1030 notice how you use words like "working on", "2030 -2045" "will replace" "will build" "under construction". translation...absolutely nothing is in place RIGHT NOW to get EU through this coming winter and beyond. nothing. it is all "hope for the future" and as we all know, hope is not a strategy. The war has not done anything to affect energy supplies. It's the sanctions on Russia. Say "bye bye" to your number one supplier and you have created your own disaster. when will we get some adults as leaders?
