Time to back Serbia and tell Kosovo to respect the rights of the Serb minority. Let the Serb majority be autonomous. Having a Kosovar mayor in the Serb majority north of Kosovo is ridiculous.

@reknakfarg7252 when only 3% of the electorate choose a candidate to be mayor, in my book, that is NOT being voted in. That aside, ethnic background doesn't matter IF equal rights and fair treatment is the way Kosovars deal with Serbs. But that isn't the way Kosovars deal with ethnic Serbs. Hence the EU is furious with Pristina for imposing such nonsense on the Serb community.

@amystern123 the Serbs were also told that over 50% of the electorate would need to vote for the result to be binding, which is why the boycott happened in the first place.

@amystern123 strongly disagree. the Serbs of north Kosovo don't even recognize Kosovo as a state. The Serbs of north Kosovo consider themselves as part of Serbia. Makes no sense to participate in elections organized by a state you don't even recognize as existing. in fact, participating in such an election would signal you are part of that state. Bit like if a bitter enemy of yours took over your house and said "now, let's have an election to see who is boss of this house", your very participation would signal you accept the legitimacy of the vote.

@wamingo Told by the very same authorities in Pristina that said autonomous Serb municipalities would be created for the ethnic Serbs of Kosovo, but which, of course was never implemented. If Blinken and the EU are telling their ally Kosovo to back down from installing Kosovar mayors in Serbian majority municipalities, you can be sure it is Kosovo at fault.

@wamingo nope, just remember at the time that Pristina agreed to allowing ethnic Serb municipalities to be autonomous as long as the 50% vote threshold was met, but hey, if this issue is such that it places you firmly in the Kosovar camp of thinking it is a really good idea to impose a Kosovar mayor on a Serb community after receiving just 3% of the vote, go for it. Just don't expect said mayor to be alive for very long, obviously.

@jeremytine of course they refused to participate in an election held by a state they don't recognize. And NATO won't enforce what the Kosovars promised, so NATO has no one but themselves to blame for their peace keepers getting beaten up by angry Serbs.

@jeremytine "They" are making it NATO's problem. Even Blinken and the EU find themselves having to lean on Pristina to sort this out.
