why would you assume, in the continent's most corrupt country, that any EU aid goes to civilians who need it? Some of us want Russia to win, so the sooner Ukraine surrenders, the better. sending aid just lengthens Ukraine's agonizing but futile fight.

@passbysimon3095 On my own corruptometer, I would think Ukraine is ahead of Russia. My own experiences living and working in Ukraine confirm the corruptometer. No, I don't want to live in Russia, but I want Russia to win. Yes, I support occupying other countries' lands, just as USA does, and the West in general, when huge injustices and evils have been committed on such land, as Ukraine has committed. We had WW2 exactly that way, to rectify horrendous evils committed on the sovereign territory of Germany, and we occupied Germany.

@robertosalinel3358 you either believe in the rule of law, or you don't. the rules say ONE veto is allowed. If you call for Hungary to be kicked out, it is YOU who is the tyrant. Learn something about democracy.

@dirkgonthier101 Hungary is an ally of Putin, and there is no rule that says the EU excludes allies of Putin (until 5 minutes ago, Germany was an ally of Putin). Your definition and my definition of who is the enemy is probably very different.

@farkoskupi4267 Russia already has a motive to attack Moldova! Transnistria is home to ethnic Russians, but thankfully, Transnistria has broken away from Moldova and the peace there is guaranteed by 2000 RUSSIAN peace-keepers! If NATO decides to push Moldova to confrontation with Russia, then Moldova will receive the same treatment as Ukraine, and deserve it. I remember Georgia VERY well, do you? BOTH Abkhazia and South Ossetia are home to ethnic Russians, Russian speaking areas, and like Ukraine, Tbilisi imposed nationalist policies on those areas that marginalized Russian speakers. As with Ukraine, Putin responded to defend the rights of those Russian speakers, and was right to do so. Today, both Abkhazia and South Ossetia live peacefully under the Russian umbrella and things are fine. Lesson learned? Poland has no Russian speaking minority, so no need to fear Russia. Latvia is the one that should be concerned. Latvia has a sizeable Russian speaking population that is being discriminated against. Latvia is the one edging toward getting the Putin treatment. Treat ethnic Russians as equal citizens, and Putin has no problem with you. Simple as that.

@Lussra 1) if you go by most reports (like General Milley and Ursula Van der Leyen), Ukraine's 100,000 dead soldiers represents a MASSIVE Russian gain! The day you learn that Putin's aim for demilitarization is all about killing Ukrainian troops, and not about territory, you will understand the reality of things. 2) Russia will win. Its objectives are within reach and attainable. Ukraine's are pure fantasy. 3) It may be that Russia is more corrupt than Ukraine. I doubt it, based on my own experiences in Ukraine, but the point is that only a fool would give aid to Ukraine and assume such aid goes to help those in need in Ukraine. Kiev has so much experience in siphoning off aid from gullible Westerners. Did you hear the news that Zelensky has sold his mansion in Miami to help his own citizens? No, neither did I!

I am not Russian and obviously I don't know how rich all Russian oligarchs are. what I do know is that the oligarchs of Ukraine control Zelensky, but Putin controls the Russian oligarchs. and that is a difference of great importance.

@farkoskupi4267 Keep in mind that Putin has been in power since last century! When has Putin even threatened to attack any NATO country? Putin has intervened militarily when ethnic Russians have been denied their rights. period. Georgia, Chechnya, Transnistria, now Ukraine. Also, you can't have your cake and eat it. If you sincerely believe Russia is heading toward a humiliating defeat in Ukraine, then you would also believe that Russia has nothing with which to attack NATO. ONLY if you believe that Russia is prevailing in Ukraine would you believe Russia could also attack NATO. which one is it? Russia is indeed strong enough to destroy Ukraine AND NATO?

poor naive child. in order for Russia to receive the same revenues from oil sales, all OPEC+ has to do is to make sure the market price for oil stays high. So the loser is the purchaser (Western countries).

@viniciovaldez8159 oh yes, when your industry relies almost totally on energy from one country, that place has become an ally (in the sense of working together for a common goal). Now we see the results of Germany switching from ally to enemy of Russia. Ally used mainly in the economic sense of course.

Turkey....happy to trade with Russia, happy to welcome Russian tourists, happy to develop energy deals with Russia...Turkey, friend or enemy of NATO? your answer please.

@viniciovaldez8159 I am actually NOT aware of any specific Russian policy that Germany objected to, pre Maidan. To me, if you agree to invest in a pipeline with a trading partner to the tune of God knows how many billions, namely Nordstream 2, you are pretty much allies.

@dirkgonthier101 your comments prove my point! To you, Turkey "isn't even a functional democracy anymore" and yet the EU welcomes Turkey as a candidate country. The West is confused who its enemy is and who its friend is. Do you think Cyprus views Turkey as an enemy or a friend? Do you think those millions of Germans with Turkish roots view Turkey as an enemy or a friend? The West has lost its way and no longer knows who is a friend and who is an enemy. you are equally confused!

@dirkgonthier101 The West preaches inclusivity and tolerance. Ukraine preaches intolerance and exclusivity, as Russian speakers must be excluded from the education system in Ukraine, unless they get educated in a foreign language (Ukrainian). The West, you would guess, would support the Russian position and back the Russian speaking communities to be allowed education in their native language...as the Catalans are allowed in Spain, but NO! The confused EU sides with Ukraine! Now, that, to me, shows that the EU has muddled up who is the enemy and who is the ally!
