The fact that this is the 8th package of sanctions tells you they ain't working. And keep in mind, Russia hasn't even bothered to sanction back in any meaningful way. Let's see how united Europe is when the lights start going out over Christmas.

@Ian-pm8ll Russia has not defaulted on its debts. A default is when the party owing the money can't repay. Russia can repay. The West is refusing to accept the payment. Given that financial transactions have all but ceased between Russia and the West, "defaulting" is now meaningless. It's a problem for the West, not for Russia. The fact that such a "default" hurts the West more than Russia shows the sanctions aren't working. Just curious, when the first German pensioners are found frozen to death this Christmas, will you still be proclaiming that the "sanctions are working"?

@Ian-pm8ll you confirmed what I said! Reuters said..."the cash was sent, but bondholders did not receive" This is not a default! As I explained, Western governments are preventing, through sanctions, people like bondholders from trading with Russia. As I explained, these sanctions HURT WESTERN BONDHOLDERS, NOT RUSSIA. You have proven my point...the sanctions are not hurting Russia, but these Western bondholders, denied by their own governments from collecting Russian funds, ARE hurt! Get it now?
