Apart from the Georgia case, Trump will also be able to pardon himself as president, though everyone knows the laughable legal system in the banana republic of USA (there is no longer a justice system, just a bent legal system) will do all in its power to imprison Trump...it's their only way to stop his message getting to the voters.

@harold9394 that is what is to be decided, doofy. when the president tells Bannon's lawyer that executive privilege means Bannon doesn't have to respond to such a subpoena, as Holder was told by Obama's council, then Bannon can claim innocence. Read the legal precedents carefully. Supreme Court will decide.

@archeretta subpoenas are an interesting phenomenon. given you never skipped civics class, you'll know the answer to this one. did anyone ever refuse to appear after a subpoena was issued and he/she avoided going to jail for such a refusal to appear? cue crickets.

Russia will be bankrupt? oh, not that tired old song from 11 months ago that the "sanctions are working". look at reality. BTW, Ukraine IS bankrupt, already! @alanbellas513 there was no Jewish regime in Warsaw. try again. if you want to look at a predator, look at USA invading Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, with its military bases all over the globe. Putin is showing the world that USA no longer calls the shots on what a "rules based order" is, and most of the globe is fine with Putin's challenge.

@alanbellas513 more lies from you. if Russia's annexing Ukraine means Ukraine is ineligible to join NATO, why was NATO membership even an issue? why even the application? why the Western leaders talking about Ukraine's sovereign right to join NATO? sounds like you need to complain to NATO leaders that they are ignorant of their own laws! No one cares about Finland. It has no oppressed Russian speaking minority and is a full on limp, wuss nation that wouldn't last 10 seconds in any real conflict. Putin has never denied Ukraine's right to exist. Again, more lies. Putin has said, and many Russians agree, that Ukraine is not a real country, just artificially created, with no unique identity, just like Belgium, or Catalonia. and I agree. doesn't mean I want to wipe Belgium off the map.

@colby25 Putin recognizes the Ukrainian right to exist as an independent country. The only question is what its borders should be and what to do with the ethnic Russians that, rightfully, since the 2014 coup, have expressed their desire to remain in a society that treats their language and culture equally and fairly, as was promised in 1991.

Lloyd Austin..."the aim is to weaken Russia". the need for nukes is not up to you. it is up to each individual nation. yes, given that the West's blundering policies have pushed the sanctioned nations into an alliance, Russia is now probably trading Iranian drones for nuclear technology. Congratulations to all those in the West who thought sanctions on Russia were such a brilliant idea! In the 1960's the Russian Federation did not exist. You are confusing it with the USSR (led by a Ukrainian, Leonid Brezhnev). Do your history books tell you anything truthful?

@colby25 1) The UN did notice the Azov shelling. that is why the UN fully endorsed the Minsk Agreements, which Ukraine then refused to implement. 2) the UN "monitors" were the corrupt UNHCR, kicked out of Donbass for reporting DPR positions to Ukrainian forces. 3) Their was no Nazi style ethnic cleansing, but strange you would mention it. Is Nazi style ethnic cleansing what you would describe the Azov Nazi shelling of Donbass? I wouldn't. 4) long gone era? 1941? so you wouldn't judge anyone by their describing Hitler as a hero? you would just accept it as normal, as Hitler was from a "long gone era"! Unbelievable. Like Belgium, artificial, like Catalonia. 2) Yes, liberating the ethnic Russians was always a desire after the 2014 coup. a desire that became a reality and will be completed. wouldn't have needed intervention had Minsk Agreements been implemented, because Putin had agreed to compromise with autonomy for Donbass. 3) Azov is now a Russian sea. worth bragging about. 4) Putin is indeed a modern Peter the Great. Putin has the backbone to stand up to the bullying and arrogance of the West. No lies there, anywhere. The fact remains, Putin was willing to talk. Biden, the bumbling cretin, missed his chance to keep peace in Ukraine. Biden is 100% at fault. stop believing your own propaganda and learn at least some basic facts.

@randallturner9094 it is because Putin listened to all the American rationalizations for invading several countries that Putin decided he would copy the "rules based order" of the West and do the same. Why complain at someone copying YOUR system? what was USA's tired excuse for invading Iraq? weapons of mass destruction? At least Hitler really did have German speaking people in Czechoslovakia he could pretend to protect. USA had to make up stories about non existent weapons! yep, i believe there is a chance Putin will invade Latvia, because those Einsteins in Riga thought it was a brilliant idea to do what the Romanians, Georgians, Chechens and Ukrainians did, namely derussify the country and discriminate against ethnic Russians. so, let's get this done, let the missiles fly and see where the chips lie when London, New York, Berlin, LA are all turned to glass. why not?

@tomspencer1364 none of them have to be ruled by a murderous autocrat. all that is asked is that the Russian speaking minorities there are treated fairly and have equal rights. like Kazakstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan. the ones that have a sense of justice get on fine with Russia.

@johnroche7541 Ukraine had no nuclear arsenal to give up. The nuclear arsenal you are referring to was a Soviet one. The Soviet Union collapsed. The question was what to do with Soviet nukes on Ukrainian soil post Ukrainian independence.

@johnroche7541 Russia also objected to the Baltics becoming part of NATO. Russia has been consistent in its arguments. The difference is not the argument, but the ability to act. Russia is much stronger now and can resist NATO expansion with force. Under Yeltsin, Russia was too chaotic and weak. Remember USA set the precedent by refusing sovereign Cuba the right to have Soviet missiles on Cuban soil. Russia playing the same game with Ukraine.

@johnroche7541 applying the same logic, when Putin has demilitarized NATO, I fully expect him to invade the Russian speaking borderlands of Latvia, and with complete victory in Ukraine I expect him to open the surrender negotiations with the demand that NATO retreat from the Baltics.

@johnroche7541 NATO expanded eastwards, contrary to what James Baker promised. Instead of disbanding when the Warsaw pact disbanded, NATO decided to expand, and now has brought about the ruin of Ukraine and of NATO. the weak Eastern European states were fooled into think USA could be their great protector.

@alanbellas513 some countries have a much higher degree of artificiality than others. those which have been a nation state for longer, unified by a common language, history and culture are less artificial than others. Ukraine is way way down in the table of "genuine" countries. and this is the heart of its problem. as it tries to find an identity, the only identity it can settle on is of being NOT Russian, hence the manic derussification and discrimination. doesn't fool anyone.

@alanbellas513 Biden had the golden opportunity to discuss Russia's security concerns, and he refused. Big mistake. Trump would have talked. Obama would have talked, Clinton would have talked. Bush would have talked. But Biden, up to his neck in corruption through Hunter's dealings in Ukraine, couldn't talk, wouldn't talk. Now NATO and Ukraine pays the price of the bumbling, incoherent shell of a human known as Biden. 10% for the big guy....says it all.

@alanbellas513 yep, the Bidens got too deep into the corruption of Ukraine, and when in December 2021 Putin requested security talks, as per point 6 of the Budapest Memo, Biden was compromised and couldn't negotiate. Very sad for Ukraine and the world. Biden proved the Budapest Memorandum meant nothing to him. not that Biden is cognizant enough to understand the complexities of ethnic Russians in ex Soviet countries anyway.

Some Ukrainians are fighting to be a part of Russia as their homeland abandoned them after the 2014 coup. Some Ukrainians are fighting because they fear refusing to fight. And yes, some Ukrainians are fighting to keep Bandera as a national hero, to keep their Azov Nazis armed and in power and to reject all Russian speakers. in the end, that is what they will have. a reduced Ukraine, nationalist in the extreme, Ukrainian speaking only, landlocked, bankrupt and abandoned by the West. Well done Zelenski. job well done. the man who promised to bring "peace to the Donbass". what a sick joke.

Putin will intervene wherever he can restore the rights of abused ethnic Russians and wherever Russia's security is threatened. and Putin has a backbone and won't back down. No one in Putin's circle wants to seize Ukraine. An incessant gue'rilla war with Ukrainians that hate Russians on NATO's border is not what Russia wants. Re read Putin's 5 objectives. Spreading misery and terror is the speciality of NATO....Afghanistan, Iraq (twice), Syria, Libya, Serbia, it never ends, and now the rest of the world is fed up of Western terror, lies, hypocrisy and bullying, the Global South is happy to work with and trade with Putin.
