@gavintantleff Interesting non-rebuttal, but honestly you can't dispute the truth. If you don't support the right to free speech, even for people you disagree with and who say distasteful things then you don't support freedom. If you don't support the right to self defense, then you don't support anyone's right to life, even your own. If you wish to reply, go for it. In fact I encourage it, even if it's likely you'll just respond with a strawman.

I disagree with the assertion that the language is great. It's not C after all.

@QUINTIX256 Given that they didn't use any such ableist slur, as if that's an actual thing, and with you calling people with firearms toxic, I'm inclined to think you're not actually armed or a supporter of equality, which is ironic because you actually are toxic.

@ybergik Yeah, I'd rather see them with an AR15, at least something American designed, if not built, but preferably built as well, especially if the conference occurs in the US.

Personally, I see this as an absolute win. Why? Because it'll make corporations and any freedom loving individuals not want to use Rust. And that will diminish and eventually kill the language, or at the very least relegate it to third tier fringe status. The less this awful language gets used the better. Of course, those that are cultishly promoting the language won't give up, but then again they never do.

It disappearing would be positive.

@jamesyeoman794 I'd settle for just going back to what the law was in 1791, 14 years for copyright and after that it's PD.

The language itself isn't actually very good, so it was always destined to be nothing more than a gimmick.

@txzk26 You can still do OOP with C, you just don't have the syntactic sugar inherent to the language to make it prettier.
2
Just two? If I could post a link I'd show you some videos that would increase that count.

While the people controlling Go are arguably better overall, the language itself is even worse. Try learning plain ol' C.
2
@rumfordc This is true, but no one should be able to trademark a standard English word in a sane world. However, it has been established that we don't live in a sane world.
2
Without modifying the language itself, as in the compiler and its code generator, you can't make it any more portable. Granted the same is true of both C and C++, their longer lifespan means that for the vast majority of platforms that someone else has already done that work for you. While you can use Rust offline, and there is a flag to do so, it's next to useless if you've already downloaded some source code that you need to compile and can't satisfy its dependencies which you only learn about after you've unplugged. In case you ask, the command line switch to use with `cargo` is `--offline` and it won't download any dependencies from the internet.

@FiveFingerTight If they don't support one right, they probably don't support a whole host of others. Of course it's quite clear that they don't support the right to free speech or self defense, so it's just a stones throw from not supporting any.

@Digidan5 You clearly haven't met the rabid cultists who would attack you for wrongthink if you dared have a difference of opinion. For those such people you would need a firearm to protect yourself.
1
@rumfordc Of course the foundation isn't the language itself, and that has been around for longer than the game.
1
@BryanAnderson-o1u You can, but it'll be out of date within a month and any new projects you find won't work. You'd be better off using a more stable language that isn't under such constant change.
