The fact that an OS vendor has implemented a "feature" that deletes your files when they detect something they don't like is proof that we NEED Linux, all of the BSD's and any other open source operating system and everyone should move to such a system now.

@kaydog890 Yeah, forget freedom. You don't need to worry about an OS deleting your games because your license has expired and it knows it. You don't need to worry about anticheat slowing "your" system down because you'll just pay the company more money or you'll buy a bigger and better computer just to get around the lag caused by the anticheat. Nope, because you stood your ground, you can game. No need to push them to port games to Linux, just pay more money.

@antiipoly What programs are you wanting to use and why do the alternatives not work for you?

@antiipoly I can't really help with the games because they either do or they don't and it depends on the types of games you play. Granted you could run them through a VM and they'd be 100% compatible, but then you'd still be running Windows, and it'd be an extra layer which, depending on your machine, may slow things down unacceptably. I'll have to look into flowlauncher to even attempt helping with that, because I've never heard of it. As for screenshots I use Spectacle and I'm not sure what feature you want that it may be missing. I've got all the shortcuts set up to screenshot the whole desktop, the active window and even to let me draw a rectangle on screen and screenshot that. It can save with a patterned filename, which I setup in the configuration as a time/date stamp, or you can save as whatever filename you want. It can be configured to save to any folder or choose a different one on demand. For me, I set the PrintScreen key to just bring up the window so I can do whatever from there, then WinKey+PrintScreen snaps the whole desktop, Win+Shift+PrtScr for the active window and Win+Ctrl+PrtScr for a rectangle region, but these are just the keys I use.

Skyrkazm 101 That all depends on the distro you use. For newbies I always recommend either Mint or Fedora. They're both super easy to setup and use and they look nice by default. If you want my advice for a desktop environment to use, KDE is easy to use and configure and can look and feel like old Windows with a bunch of extra stuff that IMO makes it far better than Windows was then and now. Or you could take a complete 180º and go with GNOME and you might find you like the change in pace.

@deadeyegam I feel like that's the wrong question to ask since the story that unfolds in a game is generally the game director's vision for the story, even if they give you some leeway in getting there or even give you multiple endings, it'll still be their vision. So comparing them is kind of fruitless since one is meant to be interactive and the other is not. Instead, the question should be whether you like the way you interact with the story as it unfolds.

@deadeyegam Except that a game is optional. It's not a necessary thing for most people's jobs. Although, truthfully, even for the jobs where it is a necessary thing, it's not like a person trains for that job and can do nothing else. But for some games, there's also no story either. Most FPS's have barely there storylines and it's not as though a person can't be just as happy playing the same FPS over and over again. I still play the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament. And puzzle games nearly never have storylines. Personally, I'm going to keep pushing to make all games open source. Consider if every game were made the way Doom WAD's were. Single file download, password protected archive and there's the game, playable with your favorite version of the game engine.
