I wonder how feasible it would be to have the community create an open search engine. All the infrastructure to handle search queries would be incredibly expensive, and you'd need more than a few programmers who actually understand whatever storage technology you use. The search algorithms really shouldn't need mentioning, but if I don't someone will probably point out the obvious. If we could find altruistic investors or get enough interest through crowdfunding, it might be possible.

@eDoc2020 Yeah, and time consuming. Storage is certainly becoming less of an issue these days, but it would still cost a lot for an index of the internet.
