I had no idea anyone reverse engineered these. Not that it would be necessary because emulators are really good now, but it'd be interesting if someone ported these so you could run them without an emulator. Maybe even merge them all into one game with the different story lines as chapters.

@yevgeniylankin7032 I'd love to see them all ported to as many systems as possible. Might have to look into what it would take, because I'm sure the code in its disassembled state could use a good refactoring for generic usage.

@Catuzen What makes you think I don't and that we haven't already gotten trashy games?

@Catuzen Like I said, your response makes no sense.

@theleonpasta7336 A lot of the reason why they didn't include them all for each game was size limitations of the platform and the cartridges themselves. They could certainly include a lot of them, but as time went on they grew a bit more than the portable platforms allowed for. Now they could easily get all of them in one game and with full 3D graphics too. While backporting to the 3DS would be cool, I'd prefer to not be as limited and just look forward to bigger and better platforms. As for SM64 and OOT, those were actually reverse engineered, the source code wasn't leaked. They are remarkable projects and part of their goal was to make it possible to regenerate the original ROM from their reverse engineered copy, and you can indeed do that. Because of their immense work there have been some really cool forks where they've fixed bugs and slowdowns in the original games even allowing it to run on the original hardware in a fixed state. You should look up the SM64 port to PC and give it a play.

@ezequieloliveira6826 I didn't know anyone wrote an emulator in Flash, but it doesn't really surprise me, there were a lot of really cool games written in it. And of course the oddball things that I really loved like Hamlet. If you know who Chris Coutts is and have seen that Hamlet, it's the best version that exists.

@Irreve-rsible This is definitely true, and they have many times in the past, but if they weren't a factor I'd love to see it happen.

@lilwoodiewood3457 The emulator is a program that runs on top of the hardware to emulate other hardware. By their very nature, such programs are going to be less efficient than to directly run a program that has been compiled for the platform you're using. What a "console" can run is irrelevant, as that's not the point. Modern consoles are nothing more than computers and really have been for the past 23 years anyway, but you missed the last line in my post about merging story lines.

@lilwoodiewood3457 Given that no PS2 emulator will play at full speed for me I'm going to say playing a game specifically compiled for my system is a better option. You say you're a programmer, okay, what languages do you know?
2
@lilwoodiewood3457 Since reading comprehension is not a skill you have, I'll explain it a different way then ignore you henceforth. I want a native build, and I want merged story lines. Failing that, as in someone not putting such a version of the games together, I still want to play them and would be willing to do so with an emulator. Original hardware is not still being built and using it decrements its lifespan. All circuits degrade with usage, so using original hardware is a no no for me other than to ensure it's still working after regular maintenance, like changing capacitors. If you still don't understand, and based on your language skills I'd be shocked if you did, I won't bother responding further.

@Freddisred Interesting. It says something about requiring the ROM's to play. Have any idea what they do? Is it just an emulator that networks the way you could with the link cable or do they do something more?
2
@Catuzen No, it really is the best version of Hamlet. The music choice is top notch, and it's hilarious.

@Catuzen Why were you saying "that sounds terrible"? I have no context and have to assume the post it's in reference to, so I picked the most recent because none of the others fit either.
1
@Kezzic Sure, if you have a flash cart, and if that's the way you want to play it. Of course, I don't have a flash kart and I'd rather not play on original hardware. I'd rather emulate or play a native build for the computer.
1
@Trixtoxia Maybe. I can't seem to get a clear answer on what precisely that is. It looks like it's just an emulator that you plug all the ROM's into and allows you to use an internet connection for link play. If I'm wrong on that, I'd like someone to tell me what it actually does, because otherwise I could do the same without registering just by using RetroArch.
