I would say with the case of Aragorn, Tolkien took direct inspiration from the historical world and as such he should be portrayed by someone white. It's not like black people were a high percentage of the population in the times that he took inspiration from for his stories, but it's really only been within the past 50 or so years that non-whites have been flooding into Europe. And I agree about characters like Blade. If they swapped a white guy in to play Blade, I would be just as insulted, but I'd only be called a racist if it were in the opposite direction. Never mind that I'm not even human anyway, but whatever.

No, the original Blade was black. As far as Nick Fury, I'd say that while they shouldn't have race swapped him, and there are prior incarnations on film of a white Nick Fury, I think that in Samuel L. Jackson's case I'll allow it because he's the best, even above the comics. For some characters there's just too much history built up and swapping would be wrong absent some really good actor. However, all that said, they should be allowed and encouraged to swap them back to their canonical form if in the future such an actor becomes unavailable. Like a certain actor really embodying the character dies and they need to recast, they shouldn't choose to keep them black just for the sake of the previous actor.

Indeed. If the swap had no significance, then they could just give them another name.
