When I was a kid and got hiccups, my mom would tell me to hold my breath and eat a massive spoonful of brown sugar. You know what, it worked every time. As much as that may sound somewhat allegorical given what you're talking about, it really isn't. As for my take, I'd say that if they're adapting something, they should be true to the source material and not change it. If they want to continue to erase a whole culture because they have a lot of hatred for it, then they should try to engage their little gray cells and come up with a novel story, but since their brains don't work, we all know that won't happen.
