Of course it's intentional, but good luck proving it. When I was a kid I did go outside and dig holes in the yard. Planted quite a few trees too. Sadly, a lot of them have been hit pretty bad by the recent ice storm, but it's not my house anymore so I can only watch from a distance. The house I grew up in will soon be demolished for a road. There might be a metaphor in there somewhere, if someone wants to find it.
