@terrydaktyllus1320 I wholeheartedly agree with the practice known by the lesser generations as gatekeeping. Not everyone is suitable for every job, both in terms of temperament and in terms of intelligence.

I'd never heard of that before. I thought it might be a typo, but this is pretty sweet. Hopefully more people see it and join up.

@SmileyJack. No, it was more interesting because in part it was something new, but in larger part because it had personality, style, individuality, flair, heart. All the things that are currently lacking. The speed just made it seem less ephemeral than it really was. It took me weeks to download my first Linux ISO at home. Had a cool program that doesn't exist anymore called a "Download Manager". Remember when you picked a server because it had download continuation? Fun times!

@Edsploration. We never did anything that useful in my class. We learned crap to enable us to pass certification exams, which I never took because fsck Windows. Although back in middle school when we were still using DOS based IBM PC's I learned how to low level format a hard drive. A skill that is utterly useless now unless you have a really, really old hard drive that still works.

It's similar to the mentality of Rustaceans. In the near future everything will be the same, every programming language will be Rust.

There is one tiny point of contention I have with this, we don't all follow the same rules. If the falsely defined "platform" you're speaking on does not like you, then you will be unpersoned while those they favor will be promoted ad nauseam.

@terrydaktyllus1320 Maybe, but I don't tend to call it gatekeeping myself, and I abhor that term, but if someone is keen I'll share what I know about things. Though, I don't have a way for people to generally contact me.

It's due to the mental conditioning that has been happening to people the past 40 years. Cradle to grave they're indoctrinated with propaganda to shape them into good little sheep. It's part of why our society is crumbling around us.

I found it rather charming when curved images used as backgrounds were split into multiple files and didn't match up on screen. It was almost like you could see the building blocks of how it was all put together.
