  1. I know I could open four buffers like that, but I prefer to just have four terminal windows open. Sometimes I even have four more on the next desktop. As far as navigating the directory structure for a file, I usually already am in the folder where all the files I want to mess with are located, but if I need to browse to find something, either :e . or :sp . work just fine and later a :cd %:h to put myself in the directory of the file I just opened.
