@angeldude101 The ideal setup is to have more than one drive installed so you can dedicate a whole drive to /home, but failing that it should at least be a separate partition so it doesn't matter what you do to the other partitions. The earlier on the drive you put it, the better. This also necessarily means that the setup program for whatever distro you use should allow you to not format /home when creating it or you should wait until after installation to set it up manually.

@angeldude101 I've got a separate drive for /home, usually do, even on my Pi. It makes everything faster and more efficient that way. As far as whatever weird layout you have with a distro's installer, try Slackware.

I'm not sure why people think reinstalling sucks. I've got a separate drive for my /home folder and when I had to reinstall because I severely borked 14.2 and moved to 15.0, the prior experience of understanding how to get around the UEFI garbage made reinstalling easy. And because I just set up all the users again in the same order, I was able to keep using my /home folder as is with no bother in reconfiguring KDE. If you use KDE, you know how valuable a thing like that is. Hey DT, you should do a video extolling upon the virtues of using a separate partition or drive for your /home folder.
