  2.  @ped7g  Static linking is a thing, so the closed source argument holds no water. Any developer you see arguing that, they're a bad developer, so don't listen to their advice.

  4.  @xXx_Regulus_xXx  Nah, Slackware is the answer. Always has been, always will be. I've got deb2tgz and rpm2tgz and can build almost anything else from source.

  5. I don't think many will disagree that more choice is more better, except for newbies. For them, and them alone, the amount of choices is daunting and I can understand the argument in that case. For such circumstances, I can only say, read a guide on best newbie distros and make sure it's within a year or two of having been published. My goto recommendation is Mint, but I've been told Fedora is a good choice a lot lately. So I'd say try one or both of them first.
