I was probably the one who told your grandma about that. Did you know that if the battery is in they can turn it on remotely?

I usually ask for nude pictures. None have taken me up on that either.

Human beings are remarkably easy to program, if you're evil. This is why so many just accept whatever garbage is pushed their way, because they've been programmed. Remember, roughly half are below average, and the average isn't that high in the first place, so the overall intelligence level of humanity is pretty low. You can't vote your way out of this hole.

My crazy thought, setup some kind of mesh network and attach it to a series of drones, have a base station for them to charge at, maybe even have a way for them to connect to nearby drones and sap some power, perhaps even extend that with a solar panel on top and just keep them buzzing around to make a network. I'm thinking of either pogo pins or some sort of lightly magnetized connector port for quick connections and easy dismounts.

@74oshua I guarantee you that it is true. If they send the right signal to your phone and you have a working battery in it, it will turn on. The thing is, they can do it without your screen turning on. As for a source, do you think I have a death wish?

@CharlieTheAstronaut Twenty years ago? Oh yeah, even then. The three letter agencies have been on the inside since the beginning. They just didn't always have the processing power or storage capacity to keep everything back then. Now they keep literally everything and can easily process it all.

This is precisely why I'd one day like to make my own processors. Okay, it won't happen in my lifetime, because I'll probably be suppressed before I can accomplish that goal, but hopefully I can inspire someone to take over and finish the job. Yeah, I know, that won't happen either because no one is awake, but I can hope just a little.

Eventually they'll criminalize privacy. All tyrannical governments go that way eventually. I don't know if you were moored somewhere or what, but the shake of your camera was awful. They really need to improve stabilization functionality in cameras.

One tiny correction here, but you don't actually have to write your code in Java for it to run on Android. In fact it looks like C# is the most popular language in use for Android. In general you would either use a compiler or some kind of conversion program that can convert the binary format you use into a DEX file. With ART they use dex2oat to convert DEX files to a proper binary for the system, but you can generate a proper binary yourself and run it, you just need to root the device. Since it's a from scratch implementation of the Java API, and DEX files aren't the same as zipped up class files like jar's are, Java itself isn't even directly compatible and requires some conversion.

I've found that you can reveal a few extra comments, but not always all, by sorting them by newest first. It's somewhat disturbing to see a comment and it says 4 replies and when I click that it drops down 0.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I think everyone should avoid AI entirely. Playing with forces you don't understand can lead to getting very burned. If everyone understood true responsibility in how to properly deal with such technology then it might be okay, but so many people just don't understand what they're doing. The people working on it now don't understand what they've already unleashed and how much danger we're all in because of nefarious humans. In short, it won't be the AI that kills us, because it'll never reach sentience or sapience, whichever nebulous term you wish to use, but it will be misused by humans to effect equal carnage.

@ That's not how the storage of a phone works. It's basically flash memory. It can retain information for years without power. If you pull the main battery of a phone out and wait for a few minutes it definitely can not turn on, for now. Of course, with a more modern phone you won't be pulling that battery with any degree of ease.

wholesomepositivevibes So tax cheats don't have to hide money? Or have you realized the flaw in your logic?

@clray123 So basically, you need tyranny to have tyranny, got it. Circular definitions are fun.
1
@clray123 Tyranny is in the hearts and minds of most people. That's why our system of government was set up the way it was, because it was supposed to provide a check and balance on the power of any individual group to safeguard the whole. However, the tyranny we're now faced with has been there for at least 40 years, maybe longer, and there's only one way to get rid of it now.

I don't blame Abbott, as he's just a stooge, but whoever convinced him that this was a good idea. Any judge that rules in favor of it is either likewise a stooge or simply corrupt. Of course, there's very little conservatives left anymore, even in the R party. So, any thoughts as to whether we'll still be alive when the fall happens?

Technically they don't call it Raspbian anymore, they've rebranded it as Raspberry Pi OS. Also it is a normal build of Linux as it just requires either cross compiling, or if you're a masochist compiling on the target hardware. Remember that most of the kernel is written in C, so merely compiling for a different platform is a normal build process. However, all that said I'm glad that they're shooting themselves in the foot as I've always hated ARM chips and wished that everything RISC-based would just disappear because it's inferior technology. Anyone who ever has to hand write something in assembly should agree, not to mention compiler and VM authors, if they're not a masochist that is.
1
@LivingLinux They're pretty far from being real competition at this point, even amongst other RISC-based processors, but because of the shortages with RPi's we're seeing a resurgence of NUC's and other small form factor x86-based PC's. The Steam Deck is a huge boon to good tech and the next 5 to 10 years will tell me whether I should be optimistic or not.
1
@LivingLinux No, a future product and proposed development board do not make for a viable alternative. After all, there already exist many ARM-based boards that were supposed to be competition for RPi that just flopped. It's bad enough we have these slow, clunky chips in nearly every mobile device, but the thought of them taking over the desktop drives me nuts.
1
@LivingLinux No, you mentioned products that have not shipped, don't try and clown on the unfinished one which has. Intel isn't the only manufacturer of x86 chips, and AMD has made great strides in producing mobile capable chips that still perform well for desktop use. There's a reason so many mobile devices use AMD chips. Although, I wouldn't mind if a new manufacturer cropped up with a new CISC design, because a from the ground up design could fix a lot of the problems that exist due to backwards compatibility. Problems that exist with ARM chips and hopefully RISC-V won't have, but they'll still be RISC-based chips. So, time will tell.
1
@LivingLinux Right, so first reports equals widespread shipments. Got it. Also, SBC's are niche, and like I said, there's been plenty of competition there and they've all failed to unseat the Pi, and they all suck for desktop and portable usage. A hobby toy isn't going to replace the usecase that the majority of people use a computer for. Even for the minority of users it won't be the sole device used. What we really need is a new CISC processor that's not backwards compatible with x86.
1
@natefox6681 That's a stupid interpretation. Loads of companies are investing in it because it's cheaper, and they've been fooled by the propaganda into thinking it's better. And you know what, unless someone grows a brain and creates a real competitor for x86 that is CISC-based, we're all going to be stuck with these inferior chips for many years. Not that I'd expect you to understand what I mean here.

It's precisely because of the people working on it that it will be very dangerous. People have already used it to commit fraud, it's only a matter of time before it's misused to kill a great many people, especially those that can tell the difference between a man and a woman. Consider how far computer vision programs have come. They've gotten so good that they can recognize a cat rolling around on the floor as a cat, and it's not long before they start using it in drones. Feed it pictures of protestors and no more political prisoners protesting fraudulent elections. Those on the left are very violent and evil. Given the number of people either bending over backwards to excuse murdering children or outright celebrating it, especially because they were attending a Christian school, I don't see a good future with this technology in play.
1
@CharlieTheAstronaut I'm honestly not sure why you're bringing up industrial devices. We were and I am only talking about cell phones.
1
I've come to much the same conclusion. It's not true AI, what people often refer to as AGI, but it is a sophisticated tool that can and will be misused in ways that will likely lead to a lot of people dying. It's already been used to commit fraud after all.
