I think a huge part of why I only ever dabbled in web dev and stuck to systems programming is because I once took a job writing a gallery image viewer for a website and the horrors of adding in every requested feature still haunt me to this day. It was super painful not only centering images but making the entire page clickable when the gallery was active to allow for clicking left and right to navigate and hitting the center to bring up the menu for "fast travel". Now there are so many better methods of doing a gallery, including having a scroll of thumbnails and swipe interfaces, but this was something like 15 years ago. Even loading the images asynchronously was a pain back then.

@sub-harmonik Well, that depends on what kind of front-end you mean. I was very specifically referring to web dev, which is the worst kind of front-end development. I still do user interfaces, but now they use toolkits that rarely change and don't have baffling quirks that vary in functionality even on the same OS.
