I keep being reminded that VBScript used to be a thing on the web and I kind of miss ActionScript, but only because of Flash games, not because it was a good language. Not to mention that every browser had a plugin for Java. Now, we only get JavaScript and it's quite frankly one of the worst languages in existence. Even VBScript was a better language. Can you imagine how cool it would be if we could easily write a program in C and "compile for web" and done? And please don't claim emscripten is that, because it's not.

@zyxzevn Even though emscripten is a horrible choice, it has shown us that C can work. Yeah, it would need some kind of local compiler and/or interpreter, but those have been done numerous times and it's just a matter of a browser incorporating one. Which is actually kind of my point. We need a plugin system for browsers like in the olden days so that multiple language runtimes could be used and efficiently.

@collection6062 Is that a clean compile or cached? Clean, mine takes about 1.5 seconds. Cached, it takes about 0.1 seconds. Of course, that's how long the whole compiler and all of its source takes to generate the compiler binary. How long does your compiler take to build programs written in your language and can you run them afterwards?

Not that you'll read this, especially on a 10 day old video, but the thing I most object to is calling it AI. All of these NN-based learning models are incorrectly formed attempts at duplicating human minds, something that isn't currently within the technological capability of humans yet, if ever. I say incorrectly formed because that's not really how human minds work. I also vehemently dislike the hype train behind "AI", but I think artists need to chill out and get over it. Yeah, the technology basically just regurgitates what others have done before, and anyone that claims otherwise doesn't actually understand how the programs work. It's a bit like mad libs with significantly many more inputs and outputs and a lot more fine-grained control over how they interact, even the art generator programs. I doubt that there's much new art to be had in this day and age, but if there is, human artists with actual skills can still compete if they learn how licensing works. If you can't create something new and unique, then are you any better than the generative programs anyway. All that said, the only places I think "AI" programs should be banned are in automation systems for censorship and in writing programs. The former should be obvious as to why, but the latter is because a human still needs to check the correctness of that generated program and if it ever goes into a piece of software that manages real life machinery which can lead to a person's death, it will guaranteed cause someone to die.

This kind of nonsense is why I think we shouldn't have country specific TLD's. Itch is my favorite game distributor. They let you decide what cut to give them. How cool is that. And seriously, a TLD such as IO should be kept forever because it's just perfect for the internet.

I still don't know why people don't just keep using it as long as it works, because it's not as if they get any money from you using it. Although, that said, I definitely think that we need to find alternatives that aren't Chromium with modifications.

One possible excuse for Ubuntu is that decent and higher quality developers will do translations with separate files so they don't have to know how other languages even work, let alone what the names of things would be, and so someone could modify such a file separately and it wouldn't necessarily be caught unless someone ran the final binary. Granted, they should've taken that tiny step and not doing so is definitely a bad thing, but I wouldn't say it's an unforgivable error. That said, I don't use Ubuntu and the only Debian-based system that I have is my Pi. As for all the rest, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a vulnerability in some commonly used piece of software on Linux systems already. The quality of modern developers is receding and we're all the worse for it. That `xz` malware issue was barely caught by accident because someone was performance testing and the bad code wasn't efficient. One might be inclined to say that if all developers are degrading in quality then the malware writers are too, and that's mostly true, but also it's likely to be fixed with an update because their goal is to be undetected. Security people need to do better because it gets infinitely more difficult to catch exploits and they only need incremental updates.

How else are they going to sell new computers if they don't up the specs required to run the latest software. What the backend deals are that they have with hardware manufacturers I don't know, but it's quite obvious that they still have such deals in place.

@nullid1492 Some immigrants can provide a boost, if they contribute to the economy in a positive way. However, those calling themselves refugees soak up all the resources and contribute nothing back. Those are the ones that we have far more of now than in the past and they do not boost the economy, they drain it.

Last I looked, euros were trading higher than dollars, so if that figure is indeed in euros, then the loss is quite a bit more for anyone from the US viewing this. Still, I don't recommend Godot anymore. If someone asks, I mostly suggest using retro game engines like the one from Doom 3, which is open source and usable in such a way that you can make a profit and not be required to share it back with the original developer. If you need editing tools, then Trenchbroom and Blender are both free and open source.

It's not just that you're stupld and Iazy, which you most definitely are and explains the constant bigotry from Rustaceans, but you're unwilling to even learn. How many new features of either C or C++ have you learned about in the past 10 years? And before you try to make an incorrect argument, a) they are separate languages, b) they've had vast changes in the past 10 years, and more so in the past 20. I bet you'll say you've spent countless hours learning about Rust's new features, completely ignoring the fact that while you've only taken the time to learn one language I and other programmers like me have been learning 10. Furthermore, it's honestly kind of sad how much you expect to be in a language's standard library and how you consider that a deficiency of the language instead of learning about the third-party tools and libraries available to you. It's almost like you don't actually want to learn how to program, just "use" your computer like an appliance.

KDE is run by some far leftists, so even though it's always been a better DE, don't contribute financially to them. I've been using KDE for nearly as long as it has existed, but once they go Wayland only I will have to switch because I've had it with the insanity.

Yeah, he keeps saying this and I totally disagree with his stance here. More importantly, in this particular case of Telegram, the government is attempting to force a citizen to do their job. If someone is distributing illegal content, and I still say only actions should be illegal, not content, then it should be up to the government to go after that person. Of course, while I think no content should be illegal, I'd probably still dispatch a person to the afterlife if they distributed CP of any of my children. But adult P should not be illegal or blocked because it's up to the parents to prevent their kids from seeing it. This is why I think a parent should be wise and only allow their children a JitterBug flip phone until they're 18.

Running out of memory because you leak everything leads to invalid accesses because morons like you don't bother to check the return value of the allocator. However, even were you to check, merely running out of memory is already all on its own a safety issue.

I'd really like to know how they think they can enforce such a policy when the browser is open source. I have but to build my own copy from source with a patch generated by someone who knows what code to excise and I don't have to care what they think. And I say a patch generated by someone else because I'm certainly not going to bother reading through FireFox's code. If push comes to shove, I'll start writing my own browser. Also, while I would never advocate for violence, I can see why someone would take this personally as an act of aggression and a declaration of war on our rights. I can see where someone would think it's okay to preemptively use violence against a company that unilaterally decided to deprive certain users of their right to free speech. I personally believe that the right to free speech is a universal right and a private corporation attacking that right is just as wrong as the government doing so. Unfortunately for Mozilla, there are people out there that don't believe in peace, as I do, and just may physically harm them for attempting to deprive people of their rights. The left keeps pushing for a civil war more and more every day and I fear for the future of humanity because of it.

If I just have to wait 5 years to see a movie or play a game for free, why bother ever paying to see movies or play games. Then the studios think, why bother making movies or games if they're not going to make their investment back. The reason for it to be at least that long is so that investment happens and new things get produced.

Though, I would like to hear an explanation of C++ "now" having memory safety as opposed to since the 98 standard which is the first standardization. Using classes correctly with destructors that clean up memory as an object leaves scope is memory safe.

@CommanderRiker0 I'm dubious of any study which proclaims C++ faster than C in any case based solely on compilers. As for pointers, you generally shouldn't use them raw in C++. If you need a resource remotely, then use a reference. It's technically still a pointer, but not one you manipulate. If the compiler is adding overhead for using std::vector and std::string, then that would negate the compiler argument, and otherwise it negates the pointer argument. Which is it?

I've already told you, I don't use any of those tools because I write perfect code from the start. But if you do the research, they're there and available for all newbs to use. @shurizzle I'm sorry, I didn't realize you have a learning disability. I'll say it more simply, if you have to use a C ABI to interface with Rust, you lose the advantages of Rust, and not just at the interface, but for the entire program. That means no more memory safety. Granted, it's a false promise anyway, this just gives you the final nail in the coffin.

@defeqel6537 I'm already writing my own language. Have been for a number of years now, I just need to acquire the gumption to open source it and find a platform that's decent. I'm somewhat leery of "free" platforms, but after Microsoft bought GH, I said hellll no.

@freedomgoddess I specifically make a point of targeting C11 with my projects. You get standard threads and _Generic that way. Although, I still wish C had function and operator overloading along with C++-esque templates.

True, but such laws should never have been allowed. It was a blatant violation of our right to free speech. I would suggest that the US has been turning left for a little over a century now and if we don't recognize that and turn back before it's too late, we just may find ourselves ceasing to exist in the near future.

@AlucardNoir You're wrong about there being no natural rights. They do exist, it's just a matter of whether our civilization recognizes and respects them is all. Of course, you're right about our rights ending where others' begin. I and everyone else has a right to do whatever we please as long as it doesn't hurt others. That naturally means that yelling fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire is not something you have a right to do as it would hurt others. This is basic logic that anyone should be able to understand, but the left wants to control everyone and everything so they tamp these rights down as much as they can. I'll say it yet again, the fact that we haven't fought back is a huge part of what's wrong with this world and why it is corrupt. Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.
