@chlorobyte_projects In the past quite a few single developer projects were set up like that so they could give an air of professionalism. And yes, many users were that lazy.

@FFGANDALF What didn't exist yet when self extracting archives were common? Keep in mind that even on Linux we had .shar files and people still create self extracting archives on all OS's.

You know what, I've been using KDE almost since its inception, and even I had no clue that themes could execute arbitrary code. I did avoid downloading any previously because of issues that other people told me about with incompatibility between versions, and as I've installed later versions seeing the warning, and I figured as we moved away from X and towards Wayland that such issues would be compounded, but if they can execute arbitrary code and no one ever checks them before they go into the store that's a massive issue. If I ever implement my own DE or WM, then I'll definitely make sure that themes have no code, and I don't know why anyone would be crazy enough to want it.
