  3. It's a protocol, so not the same thing as X, but implementations of the protocol will supplant X. Unless you directly coded your UI using X, then it doesn't really matter. Use GTK or Qt or hell, SDL or RayLib, anything you want that's not X itself, and it won't matter to you at all.
