I completely agree, keep the old kernel around just in case. While I rarely update and will delete old kernels after a few years, I'll keep the immediately previous one until at least the next update. Also, you'd have to keep a lot to get to 1GB because even the huge variants I'm using top out at 11mb. We're talking about 100 kernels for me to get to a gig.

Are you using X or Wayland? If X, have you tried XDM or just using startx from a VT?

@_boux If xdm won't work then I doubt gdm would either, but if you've got all the GNOME stuff installed, maybe give it a shot too. And have you tried just using startx?

@_boux Hopefully that sorts it.

@erikkonstas True, I should, but I'm also lazy, so it's generally a few years between updates. I should probably be tracking their Git repository for that matter, but the source I have is for the kernel I'm currently using.

@notuxnobux I have a potato, so it's 30 minutes or somewhere thereabouts for me. But I also only do it once in a blue moon.
