  1. I've been using vim for almost 20 years, and I still discover new things. Such as Ctrl-A to increase a highlighted or end of line number and Ctrl-X to decrease it. It is indeed a platform, but not as bloated as emacs. Before vim I was on win98 and used notepad and crimson edit to write code, which is probably why I have the style that I do. Grok is an old synonym for understand. I would expect that someone using C for 10 years would at least know the majority of the standard and the standard library, though these days people tend to only learn what's in the top tutorial that google brings up, so YMMV.
