I downloaded my first copy of Slackware, version 6.0 at that time, via a free dial-up provider, at somewhere around 1kB/s. It took so many days using a download manager that I lost track of how long it took. Thankfully they don't update often so I had it downloaded before the next version was out. Those were both fun and frustrating times.

Remember the days of download managers? Fun times, if the server supported download continuation. When they didn't, you were just fucked. Once my brother started college he moved into Austin and had cable and DSL, depending on where he lived at the time, and I downloaded a lot of .iso's whenever I'd visit him. I've got a box with at least 20 distros, each one 2 to 5 discs in size, except Debian which was 9 or 10. Of course, I've got every Slackware from 6 on, though I stopped burning discs around 12. The ability to install from a flash drive is awesome. Now days I can download any distro in less than an hour and I probably have too many flash drives laying around. One of these days I'm going to consolidate them onto one big SSD and have no clue what to do with the flash drives.
