One of these days I just might try out a tiling WM, but for me, I just have shortcuts to push windows to quadrants or halves of the screen on a whim and generally just push things as full screen to a given desktop. The only real exception to full screening stuff is when I'm browsing photos or editing code. With the latter I'll either have four terminals open and only really be active in two, or I'll have two open, side by side, and use tabs within Vim instances. I really like Vim tabs and I've even bound tabn and tabp to just normal mode <tab> and <s-tab>. But I also fully acknowledge that I'm weird and likely no one shares my methodologies.

Yeah, KDE has a feature where you can drag a window to push into a tiled position and it annoyed me as well as because it required the mouse I never really wanted to use it. So I shortcut all the tiling positions and just use the keyboard to push windows into place as I see fit. I have a touch of OCD and couldn't stand having three windows on a desktop like that, and I would just push a third to a different desktop, but to each their own, I guess.
