I had to look it up, but apparently ext3 was introduced in November of 2001. As for renaming ReiserFS, I would suggest abbreviating whoever they name it after. That should ideally be the person who contributed the most to the project, so if that's Shishkin, then I'd suggest just calling it SFS or maybe being cute with it and calling it SHFS.

@jeffreyjoshuarollin9554 Fair enough, but what about SHFS then?

@trueriver1950 Unless I missed something, he didn't retract his statements because they were never in support of people doing that particular activity. He was saying not to jump the gun on judging someone until it was proven they were guilty. And on that point at least he was right. In the US we have this concept of *innocent until proven guilty*. If someone is accused of something, and especially if that something depends on them having knowledge of all the facts for them to actually be guilty of the crime, then clearly they should not be judged as guilty by the general public. A lot of our jurisprudence depends on intent for someone to be guilty, and if a person is lied to about certain facts then there is no intent.

I was still dual-booting Win98 back then, but I was already at the stage where I hardly ever used Windows except for a few games that wouldn't run through WINE, at the time. I don't think they ever reported why he did it, but it sounds like from his letter that it was a fight that got out of hand? I only ever used EXT because I had a program that could read those partitions from inside Windows, and even now I stick to it because it's well-known and less likely to have problems in general. Although, I am on version 4 now days.
