I'm not even sure how it's supposedly known that they still use ffmpeg, and truthfully, even if they are, if you've ever used ffmpeg you'll know that providing an easy to use interface is added value. If it's really a case of they made it run better than stock, then yet again, that's added value. I'm honestly not sure I get ffmpeg's take on it either because I too did not read into it that they were attacking the project. And again, if they're using it in the backend, how does anyone external know? Are they telling people that they're still using it and then claiming they don't in marketing materials or is it some sort of arrogant assumption?
