I'm a bit late to the party, but this won't completely replace it since you can't skip around. As in doing the first, second and fourth line but not the third. If you know of a way in vanilla vim without manually inputting the lines you want affected then I'd love to know how.

@ky3ow Yeah, I was thinking about it and short of writing some vim script and tacking on line numbers as arguments to a function that's probably the best way. I guess I just think of weird things I want to do that no one seems to account for. I may be the only one that wants to do those things, though.
