There was a phone, which I don't know if it's still made, but it had physical switches to turn off the camera, microphone, bluetooth and wifi. It'd be cool if laptops had such a feature built-in. Would certainly make using those things easier too as you could just toggle wifi on and not have to pull the mouse down and select this icon then click then select this option.

I've got a couple of old Android phones that I'm only keeping around because I might eventually cannibalize all their parts for random projects.

I used to wonder that very same thing whenever a new piece of hardware got released and the drivers didn't work. The problem is that a change in manufacturing process, often to make the end product cheaper, can cause a slight shift in the design which necessitates changing, for instance, a data pin. Perhaps the first revision of a chip used a pull up or down resistor and the new revision excludes it to save money and that needs to be added externally, or any number of factors. Granted it's not always to cheapen the product, sometimes they add one new thing that requires a slight redesign. It's annoying as frick, but that is unfortunately the way things will stay until someone comes up with some standardization technique that everyone magically follows. That's not to say I forgive them for their laxity, just that I understand why the changes are needed in the first place.

@NickolasGupton I do seem to recall that name. Maybe I'm getting old, but my memory just isn't what it used to be.

@terrydaktyllus1320 When you say western, to which countries are you actually referring to?

@terrydaktyllus1320 Says a lot about you when you make such a biased statement and then refuse to answer a simple question.
