@alenasenie6928 You're probably right that we can't win against them, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try. With enough time and people throwing their bodies at that wall, it might eventually crumble.

@alenasenie6928 Eventually, yes. The US government is not all powerful, and indeed changes control every 2, 4, 6 or 8 years. There are enough people to oppose this that they could get a win in court. They just need the motivation and money to do so. Which means for the fastest results, foreign governments would need to file suits. In international court if need be.

Exactly. That's the point that most people don't seem to get. It's a 4th amendment right and I firmly believe that it should be applied not just to the government but any company that freely hands data over to the government.

It's not so much that they're American, but rather that they don't believe in freedom. What we need is a tech company that does believe in freedom to compete with them that is also American. A company which manufactures silicon chips on American soil would be great too as it could alleviate dependence on Chinese chips, which are a potential security problem. Of course we all know that won't happen because it takes billions to start such a company and be successful, but it's a nice dream.

@michawhite7613 That's a rather pathetic attitude. We're often taxed at least 3 times on all money we earn and you think that's acceptable? I can't even understand taxing one time if they're just going to waste the money. If the government provided some value for our tax dollars, and I'm not talking about repaving a road once every 10 or 20 years, I pay taxes every year after all, but actually using the money to do something useful with it, then this might be a valid argument, but they waste far too much.

@michawhite7613 Social security is a waste because they don't properly invest the money. So you pay in X, get back X/4, if you're lucky, and they've gone from what should have been X+(1% to 3%) to actually being 0. If you instead didn't pay into SS and invested the money yourself you'd at least have X+1%, more if you know what you're doing. Defense spending and that of our intelligence organizations is largely wasted. Our military personnel get paid next to nothing while we spend billions on equipment that barely gets used. Our military is one of the largest in the world. Paying $10,000 for a hammer is clearly a waste, especially as it goes to funding the black budget that gets used to overthrow other countries and install different dictators who we later have to go in and either overthrow again or consider that country a loss. Property, income and inheritance taxes are all immoral, and were it not for a stolen amendment income taxes would be illegal and whether anyone is willing or capable of challenging the IRS on this, property and inheritance taxes are also illegal. What you're referring to with broccoli is a stupid analogy that seems to be referencing insurance. Money is fungible, and no valid health care should be denied. I don't think you understand the full breadth and scope of what the government does because they waste a LOT of money. Many of the organizations that we have shouldn't even exist and quite a few are redundant 10 times over. If you consider state governments and what they do, then the federal government is even duplicating a lot of their efforts too.

@michawhite7613 Now list all the things that the government does that not only doesn't benefit anyone but actively harms the citizens. If that doesn't make you rethink your blind devotion then there's no hope for you. Although, on the CDC, they actively worked to imprison the entire country. The FDIC isn't run by the government even though they were started by it, and they do more harm than good. Banks failing for improper loans should've happened and whether you or they believe it the world would have been better off. The USDA doesn't inspect all meat, rather samples of it, and their inspectors have failed to prevent people from dying a lot. Most federal regulation works on a trust basis because they literally can't inspect everything. Do the companies that break that trust get shut down? Generally never, and at worst the CEO or a few board members get fired. How many antitrust lawsuits can you recall being filed in the past 20 years. Yet we have exceedingly large and egregious antitrust violations and monopolies all over. The government isn't doing its job yet you think our taxes are just?

@michawhite7613 You don't understand the argument, obviously, but they don't do their job. The inspectors don't actually inspect enough. Trusting a company to do what's right isn't the way to go. It's not that they save several lives instead of all. It's that they save none. We've been lucky and most corporations do want to keep their customers alive to actually keep making money, but when they become complacent and negligent we get screwed over because the inspectors don't inspect until people die and then it's too late.

I don't think anyone should have to prove to any government where the money they possess came from. Especially in the US where we have 4th amendment rights to privacy.

I doubt many here would agree with me politically, but I see this action as one of a tyrannical government. Hopefully they'll be mostly voted out of office in the next two or three election cycles, but I doubt it. The world seems to be getting worse because more and more people think they have a right to tell others what they can and can't do merely because they're afraid of what they'll do with their freedom. Those that don't want freedom keep winning because of propaganda and labeling the other side as every negative slur under the sun they easily influence mindless zombies against them. The responses to this comment will be predictable. One of deletion, ignoring altogether or outright vitriol.
