I used to use elinks back when Yahoo Chat was still a thing, simultaneously running zinc and irssi. I miss those days when nearly all web pages could actually render well in elinks.

Also tct is kind of cool.

Only thing to add is that vim works with the mouse from a VT, although it works better in a proper GUI and especially better in konsole than xterm. Not a lot of comments on this video either, so I guess there aren't a lot of people that use the mouse from a VT that also watch your channel.

@autohmae I think you mean Homestar Runner, or is time travel not allowed here?

I guess that's where it helps to know English, because I've been using it since I started with Linux like 25 years ago. Though, I find that the mouse works better in a TTY than a VT, and it also partly depends on your terminal emulator, such as xterm being wonky and konsole being nearly perfect.

@shoobydowah That takes me back. I played with Mandrake for a short while. I might even still have a copy since I found my box of distros when I moved.

I prefer to call them MicroShaft, but some people consider that offensive. ;]

To each their own. I prefer keyboard only shortcuts, but it's nice that I can use my moues in a terminal either way.

@spl420 Well, it is possible that defaults could be different, or even have features missing from one version since it's not a recent fork. Although, if you've not used Vim itself before you may be surprised to know that you can configure it to build with Lua support. I don't know how long that feature has existed in Vim, but at least as far back as 2010. You'd have to build it from source to enable it, because I've not encountered any repository version that did so.

Did you use elinks to browse the internet, irssi to chat on IRC and ask some questions?
1
Yep, incredibly useful to quickly close a tree node.

I was looking for this comment. Just knew someone would point it out.

What fancy things does it do that you don't like? Have you tried konsole as an alternative? Graphical glitches aside I find it works a lot better than xterm.

@PetraleiTanyl Interesting, though I think that behavior is part of the mouse driver and DE/WM combined. There might be a setting for restricting click to focus to actually focusing only, but probably only if you're using Gnome or KDE.

@PetraleiTanyl Ah, well that's different. You can actually configure vim to handle mouse support differently. :set mouse=nvi to enable in Normal, Visual and Insert mode, or remove some letters to disable it for modes, such as :set mouse= to disable it. Although, it should be noted that if you're copying and pasting things, I've found that it's easiest using konsole and the global clipboard with vim.
